No, not that kind I mean like in a cell phone. I have a Droid, and it shakes pretty good when set to vibrate. So, what type of mechanism is in there? |

Force feedback. Haptic actuators makes a touch tap you back.
Think of it like a very tiny electromagnetically actuated weight that only jumps a very short distance within the confines of the component, once that device is momentarily pulsed with current directed to it by circuitry which was driven by a signal generated by a touching a touch a sensitive screen in an area near the particular haptic actuator. The actuator thumps you back in that general area simulating a tactile response. There are many actuator strategically placed under the screen in manner that corresponds with the screens touch key locations.
Vibrators using eccentric or offset weights driven by motors, vibrate but can be made to create differing sensations. Piezo haptic actuators are what it's about now, very small with lower enegy consumption and solid state. Check it out |

eta: The vibrator in my case cleaner is an electric fan motor with an eccentric circular weight set-screwed to the shaft. Couldn't get any simpler! |
