I would rather be sleeping, no offence to you guys.

In fact I would rather have been sleeping for the last 4 hours now.

Bendaryl?

A bit late now, assuming you have things to do this morning.

One or two.  It is getting to the point where it makes more sense to stay up.  I figure give myself another 15 min of surfing and go lay down again.

The only thing that works for me is imagining I am completely somewhere else, under different circumstances, trying to sleep.    Alot of times I try and think I'm camping by myself in a favorite place and going to sleep.

I had an excercise I used years ago that relaxed the body and worked everytime for me to go to sleep.

It began with laying on your back still and focusing on the air moving in and out of your nose.  Breathe steady and slow for 5 minutes and just feel the air move in and out. Then you think about each arm and leg at a time and relax them finally focus on your torso.  Then go back to breathing and I would go to sleep fast.

It takes about 1/2 hour to do but at the end I felt like my body was like a lead weight in bed and fell asleep.  Worked everytime for me.

Put on a boring movie and get comfortable. That usually works for me. It gets my mind to slow down.

Chronic insomniac advice:

Melatonin, take 8+ hours before wakie wakie.  This one hits me HARD and makes me feel groggy and unable to move (from my past, I assume this is normal, so this must be good).  Take infrequently.  I've built up a tolerance to this in the past.

Diphenhydramine (benadryl), take 6+ hours before.

The Melatonin hits me hard, especially if I don't use it much.

the Diphenhydramine can be found at Walmart in a cheap bottle of 48 or 72 pills as a sleeping aid, MUCH cheaper than buying it as a cold medicine, i.e. Benadryl.

Chamomile tea and NO electronics (including internet) for a bit before bed helps.

Exercise sometime during the day.  Cardio is best.

My personal best is an audiobook on an mp3 player.  Put on a long and boring one and you'll be out in minutes.  I'm currently listening to Swan Song by Robert McCammon.  It's not too boring, but the reader is.  I'd be asleep right now except for the dead batteries... so, here I sit, charging my mp3 player.

In that case, would you like me to read you a bedtime story?

Same prob here. Just tried kicking the prescribed sleeping pills, and has not been going well. Once the sun comes up, I get tired as all hell and could sleep easily. Have to go into work though, so its not an option. Day 2 and going on about 6 hours of sleep total, so I would assume I am going to crash hard soon. OIF 4 veteran

An herbal extract made from the Kava plant always cures my insomnia. It can be found in capsule form for pretty cheap.

Finally knocked out at 0345.  Woke up 0745.  Tonight should be a good sleep.
