When I was growing up I had Army Men all the time There seemed to always be a particular Army Man who died first in battle.

The Flame Thrower guy...
Then The Mine Sweeper
Then the Guy with the Binos and 1911
Then the Guy with the M16 to his side
then the Guy with the M16 and Bayonet over his head
Then the RTO
Low Crawler
then the guy who doesn't seem to be doing anything
Then the Bazooka Man and
finally the Mortar Man
All the rest went down in battle involving fireworks.

How did yours die?

Many fell victim to these:

8/13/2011 12:56:41 PM EDT
[#6]
Most of mine died at the hands of a Daisy BB rifle.
8/13/2011 12:56:41 PM EDT
[#7]
I had this, they all died horribly!

8/13/2011 12:58:20 PM EDT

FRIDAYS... enjoy... I had to call my younger brother to find out what show this was, I remember us laughing our asses off...

Yep. At least just the army men. I haven't seen the big playsets.

They're pretty crappy plastic these days though.

Worst ones.

BAH! Flame Thrower only has 3-4 seconds of "Firepower"
They tried but always died first in a horrible fashion!

[#18]
I ordered these out of a comic book too.

They were flat, 2 dimensional made out of a brittle plastic.

The ones I've seen around town are all in non-threatening poses.

I was drunk with some buddies one time and went to buy some and raged so hard that I almost blew my top off in the store.  We grabbed hot pockets instead

I ordered the revolutionary war ones..... Just as cheap.... I felt like Ralphie when he discovered that his little orphan annie decoder message was a commercial.

I would've sold my big sister into slavery for that playset!

Not on Iwo Jima! When they showed up, everyone ran or died a horrible painful death! (At least until my mom started locking up her hairspray )

I ordered one of those if I remember right! They never shipped them!!!!!

That has been so long ago.

I do remember that the guy who had the most "troops" though, always won. Was the first lesson I had in military tactics. Was simple really. SPREAD OUT and don`t bunch up!!!

You missed nothing ! I'd say half of mine wouldnt even stand up because of the plastic crap on the base being mal formed & f'd up.....

They became casualties very quickly. The battlefield is a harsh place.

8/13/2011 1:24:42 PM EDT

4 and 5 always went down first because they looked the most "dead" when knocked over.
8/13/2011 1:24:55 PM EDT

Mine suffered from a massive barrage of Oregon Blue Tip matches, wrapped in a cone of aluminum foil. They make great assault rockets. The manager of the trailer park we lived in turned me into my Mom because I made the sand playground look like the Marne.
8/13/2011 1:25:16 PM EDT
[#33]
where can you get them?
8/13/2011 1:25:30 PM EDT
[#34]
Ok, so I guess the question is......can we still buy quality army men somewhere ?
No made in china commie men.

No, but imagine this. We're half Irish, half Italian. She's strawberry blonde and has a nose like Mussolini. You don't wanna' see that!

Amazon.com has quite a selection.

I was attacked by a platoon sized element of plastic army men, but fortunately  I was behind cover and   fought them off with my Red Ryder.

n/m, somebody found it

slaughtered in a series of cataclysmic attacks.

covered in testers glue and set afire with numerous support vehicles in a sand box.

nuked with a quart of gasoline and burnt to crispy critters in a leaf pile.

blown to smithereens with real m80s and cherry bombs.

but the most fun, me and my dad spent an hour of two building a big fort and set a shitpile of army men (several bags) in a mock dien bien phu and then simulating a massive artillery attack with semi auto .22 caliber canon fire.

I always loved setting up whole bags of those and going at em with my BB gun. But I preferred using the versions that more closely resembled WWII era German troops or NVA. I never did feel right shooting at plastic men who resembled GIs.

Oh those goddamn things. Somewhere I read that those were originally part of a toy tank or artillery set that used the crappy 2d bits as targets.

A friend of mine got them, and yes they were excellent targets for a Daisy.
8/13/2011 1:53:54 PM EDT
[#47]
I spent many a day on a big dirt mound digging fighting holes and tunnels and positioning my troops.
Only to fall back and destroy them with my Crossman 760 !!

Once a gain Arfcom Gd delivers. Im in a marked patrol unit laughing my ass off at the comments and bids.
Thanks

airsoft and palstic army men in lego forts....

I always saw myself as either the mortarman or the flamethrower guy.

That tool attacking with the M-16 raised above his head always bought it.

I mean...what did he expect?  He's completely exposed.  Idiot.
