FYI...ALL
THE PHONE NUMBERS in your phone are now on Facebook! Go to the top
right of computer screen, click on ACCOUNT, click on EDIT FRIENDS, left
side of screen and click CONTACTS. You will see all phone numbers from
your phone (FB friends or not) are published that you have stored in
your mobile phone. TO REMOVE, go to right column, click on "this page."
ETA: Obviously, Facebook is not publishing your contacts for the world to see. Just be aware that if you have synced your contacts(I never purposely synced mine I guess it was on by default), it's not just Facebook friends that get synced. It's ALL of your contacts and now Facebook has a copy of that information. I just think it's a little over the top as far as privacy goes.

I unbolded the title because it's not as important as I thought it was.

From Facebook:

Facebook Phonebook displays contacts you have imported from your phone, as well as your Facebook friends.

If you would like to remove your mobile contacts from Facebook, you need to disable the feature on your mobile phone and visit this page.

ETA:

Just recieved this email:

Hi M4Real,

As you requested, your imported contacts have been removed. Please note: if some of your friends choose to share their email or phone numbers with friends on Facebook, you'll still see their contact information in your phonebook.

Thanks,
The Facebook Team

I checked it yesterday, Facebook does pull from your phone. I was like WTF, then deleted the feature... thought it was kinda messed up to install something THEN tell me about it.

WTF There are also numbers showing up that I deleted from my phone long ago, and don't have on my FB.  FB has been badgering people for their numbers for a long time.

Yeah, if you have it set up that way.

Facebook isn't publishing the numbers for everybody to see though.

I said the same thing No idea where they pulled those numbers from, I think it was because I have Android backup and Google Sync on my phone, they took EVERY damn number I ever entered my phone and put it on FB.

Indeed, a lot of people put their numbers any, but it is clearly importing data from your phone if you have the app on there.  This is more than people just people their number in there.

They're not publishing your numbers, they just take everything from your phone and make it available to you through Facebook (Like an online contacts list). The point is, they invaded your privacy and took those numbers without notification.

This is true, but, Facebook doesn't need to be syncing anything I haven't allowed in advance. That fact that they pulled all of my contacts from my phone and are now in possession of them just pisses me off.

You know, that is exactly what it is.. when you install the Facebook App on your phone it asks if you want to sync the numbers.. I automatically assume its just Facebook to your phone (People who entered Phone #s), but it actually goes both ways. I always used Google to store my numbers in case I ever lost my phone, but this might not be too bad after all.

ETA, just kind of surprising.

That is the sort of thing that is bugging me.  I have ex coworkers from 2+ years ago no longer in my contacts that magically showed up in there.  I would be all for this if there was an opt in button.  I get pissed when I have to opt out of stuff that happens automatically.

I have a feeling people saying that its only people published their numbers haven't taken the time to look into it.

Yeah, this. If you sync your phone (I have a DROID and it asks you to sync your profile). When i did that, it imported all my facebook friends as contacts to my phone. DID NOT WANT. So I un-synced (I'm sure that isn't a proper term but whatever). So now i just use the facebook app, and don't sync it to my phone. Should be safe doing it that way.

I have a couple younger cousins in high school/jr high that I see on there though that I need to call today now to say "don't be an idiot, un-sync your phone."

I never purposely synced my phone contacts "Sport". It was on by default when I installed the app. Many of my friends on Facebook never synced their phone contacts either, but, the info is on Facebook.

No.

During the FB app installation, there is a prompt that says, "Do you want to sync your contacts with Facebook?" or words to that effect. Either YOU clicked "Yes" or the evil geniuses at Facebook snuck in to your room at night and clicked "Yes" for you.

ETA: FWIW, I have over 6,000 contacts in my phone, and I use the FB phone app all the time. There are only about 30 people with phone numbers on my FB "Contact" page, most of whom are NOT in my phone contacts.
