How is NY there even as the the lowest of the 10? I tell young guys all the time to get the f out of NY before you put down roots and are stuck here.

What are the jobs in Texas? Oil, manufacturing or construction (that can't be good)? Does it include illegals?

You don't really here about guys from around here going to Texas. Usually they go to VA, the Carolinas or Florida. I guess that way they are still within a long but possible drive home.

You know the old joke 'You said CONVICTED, right?" Never caught is the same as innocent.

My wife looked at a job in Texas but I used to have heat stroke in Tennessee in the summer, I'd never survive Texas

Dear Diary,

Just moved to Texas! Now this is a state that knows how to live!! Beautiful sunny days and warm balmy evenings.
It is beautiful. I've finally found my home. I love it here.

 June 14th:
Really heating up. Got to 100 today. Not a problem. Live in an air-conditioned home, drive an air-conditioned
car. What a pleasure to see the sun everyday like this. I'm turning into a sun worshipper.

 June 30th:
Had the backyard landscaped with western plants today. Lots of cactus and rocks. What a breeze to maintain. No
more mowing the lawn for me. Another scorcher today, but I love it here.

 July 10th:
The temperature hasn't been below 100 all week. How do people get used to this kind of heat? At least, it's
kind of windy though. But getting used to the heat is taking longer than I expected.

 July 15th:
Fell asleep by the community pool. Got 3rd degree burns over 60% of my body. Missed 3 days of work. What a dumb
thing to do. I learned my lesson though. Got to respect the ol' sun in a climate like this.

 July 20th:
I missed Lomita (my cat) sneaking into the car when I left this morning. By the time I got to the hot car at
noon, Lomita had died and swollen up to the size of a shopping bag, then popped like a water balloon. The car
now smells like Kibbles and Shits. I learned my lesson though. No more pets in this heat. Good ol' Mr. Sun
 strikes again.

July 25th:
The wind sucks. It feels like a giant freaking blow dryer!! And it's hot as hell. The home air-conditioner is
on the fritz and the AC repairman charged $200 just to drive by and tell me he needed to order parts.

 July 30th:
Been sleeping outside on the patio for 3 nights now, $225,000 house and I can't even go inside. Lomita is the
lucky one. Why did I ever come here?

 Aug. 4th:
Its 115 degrees. Finally got the air-conditioner fixed today. It cost $500 and gets the temperature down to 85.
 I hate this stupid state.

 Aug. 8th:
If another wise ass cracks, 'Hot enough for you today?' I'm going to strangle him. Damn heat. By the time I get
to work, the radiator is boiling over, my clothes are soaking wet, and I smell like baked cat!!

 Aug. 9th:
Tried to run some errands after work. Wore shorts, and when I sat on the seats in the car, I thought my ass was
on fire. My skin melted to the seat. I lost 2 layers of flesh and all the hair on the back of my legs and
ass . . . Now my car smells like burnt hair, fried ass, and baked cat.

 Aug 10th:
The weather report might as well be a damn recording. Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny. It's been
too hot to do shit for 2 damn months and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week. Doesn't it ever
rain in this damn state? Water rationing will be next, so my $1700 worth of cactus will just dry up and blow
over. Even the cactus can't live in this damn heat.

Aug. 14th:
Welcome to HELL! Temperature got to 115 today. Cactus are dead. Forgot to crack the window and blew the damn
windshield out of the car. The installer came to fix it and guess what he asked me??? "Hot enough for you
today?" My sister had to spend $1,500 to bail me out of jail. Freaking Texas . What kind of a sick demented
idiot would want to live here?? Will write later to let you know how the trial goes.

I'm a transplant from Canada and I learned to become a Texan.  First thing to do is get a big chicken fried steak with mashed taters and either a sweet tea or a Shiner.  You will want to repeat this step several times. Also try the Mexican food and BBQ with beer. I highly recommend it.

Rusted out f150

i had a guy show up at my office once and said he wanted the money he had paid me for a bankruptcy back as he changed his mind. I said that was great that things had turned around for him as he had just built a new house etc. He pointed out the window and his family was in his truck with a u haul pull behind attached. He said he was abandoning his house and moving to south carolina so I cut him a check and he handed me the keys to the house and asked me to get ahold of the bank so they could drain the pipes and seal up his house. Never saw him again

Well, I really don't wish to crap in Mark's thread.  He's not your average arfcommer and I respect the work he does for gunowners, our military, and this site.  You can pretty much do a search for Rick Perry for the past 30 days or so and find all you need to know to make your own informed decision.

Do you think if Perry would step up to the plate on securing the border it would be about par? I guess I am asking what is bad about the leadership?

I understand the gun laws here are a little better.

Well, I really don't wish to crap in Mark's thread.  He's not your average arfcommer and I respect the work he does for gunowners, our military, and this site.  You can pretty much do a search for Rick Perry for the past 30 days or so and find all you need to know to make your own informed decision.

Uh, your sigline ...

Pengy, you can have all the Yankees back that you want from the cities. They've come down here and tried turning us into the shithole they left. We do like some of them though. I know quite a few that are conservative freedom lovers. We have room for an extra bird or two so fly on down. Oh... wait. Waddle or drive. Do penguins drive? Anyway, Mark, you're welcome too.

Oh, Aimless, if you live near the beach there's some really nice water slides.

You'd love this wouldn't you. lol

Those must be guys from Long Island or something, my part of the state is solidly poor Republican and gun owning

We have a lot of tech companies here.  Austin was referred to as 'Silicone Hills'.

I know of a few companies that were based in Kalifornistan that moved out here... as well as a shit-ton of people!

I think your state has better leadership at the moment.  Definitely better gun laws.

Careful, us old machinists rise and pray to the north ... Cincinatti, Elgin, Cleveland, Chicago/Latrobe, Milwaukee ... Dayton, the epicenter of all things tool making.

I can't think of a machine tool named after Houston, New Orleans, Atlanta.

I do believe that will shift.  The heart of the new economy will be more southerly.  I think many urban centers will soon be emptying faster than Oklahoma in a Dust Bowl.  Unions, unsupportable welfare states, and yes, plain old lack of job growth will mean more boom years for Texas.  I hope.
