I just restored my xps to the factory image because I was constantly getting the BSOD.

I remember tweaking a lot of settings when i first got this thing in 08 to make it run faster (turning off some needed system services, etc...) but I can't seem to remember what I did.

I am running vista, service pack 1. Any dell or XPS experts please chime in. I want it to be the mean machine it was 3 years ago.

Bump.

Also the only protection I am running is Avira antivirus. What other free programs can I run to keep me protected?

Vista tweak guide.  Also, do you have an ATI 8600M GT video card in that thing?  Those things are known to be defective from the manufacturer.  If you start getting blue screens, vid card might be going out.

AV1611 out......

The name of the site may sound stupid but try going to www.blackviper.com  He has a great section about what services you do and don't need.
