This is Kemo. He's my 5 month old Presa Canario. He weighs 51 lbs.

He enjoys his time causing trouble, munching on bamboo, trying to kill everything that enters the yard and barking at anyone he doesn't know.

A couple nights ago he was steadily and angrily barking near the back fence. I glanced his way and saw nothing. After a while, I came back outside to find him pawing this creature.
Judging by my forensic skills and the 4 obvious puncture wounds to the neck, Kemo grabbed this creature and shook the beast until his neck snapped.

I also have a 2.5 year old female Presa Canario. I plan on breeding them as they are both UKC registered from Champion bloodlines. Her name is Kaya.

So is he going to be a trained guard dog?  With a dog like that which was bred for fighting, you'll want to watch his kill instinct.  Let him do it too much and next thing you know, he'll be going after small dogs.

I work with him several times a day for 20-30 minutes per session. He's extremely intelligent and listens to me as if commanded by God. I take my responsibility very seriously. My friend's 2 year old is around him regularly and Kemo is always very well behaved. I'm a firm believer that there are no bad dogs, just bad owners.

Just FYI, the Presa Canario was originally bred for fighting a long time ago, but was mostly developed for working on Cattle, mainly Bulls.

Dogs recognize other dogs.  All dogs use similar language to communicate.  It is not likely that a dog that chases and kills squirrels and possums is suddenly going to attack other dogs.

And presa canarios are not a breed with a lot of inherent potential dog aggression, either.  Honestly, with a presa, I'd be more worried about looking for potential aggression issues towards other humans.  The case in San Francisco where a lady was killed by the two neighbor dogs.. that was presa canarios.

To this point, his aggression is directed at people outside the fence. Presa's are very protective of a defined territory and very aware of strangers. Kemo gets walked twice daily and exhibits his displeasure to unknown people by growling and barking while "staying" just infront of me. His leash training is on a 3 foot lead.

I shot a squirrel last week...it wasnt dead, so called my pup outside to get her first squirrel kill. She went in for the kill and the damned thing latched on to her face and bit her nose. It was the funniest thing I have seen in a while. She was yiping and barking. She wouldnt go near the thing after that, so I had to kill it myself.

I worked as an intern for the prosecutors on that case.  Those two dogs had gone after several dogs/people prior to killing Diane Whipple.  It was just a matter of time.

"The Presa Canario, or Canary Dog, are a fierce smooth coated dog that was developed on the Canary Islands in the 19th Century. They were bread for one purpose : Fighting, since at that time the popularity of having dogs fight was one in which the population had enjoyed as a betting sport. They were near extinction in the last 100 years but became popular once more as people wanted a more aggressive bread for protection. "

Not to mention this incomprehensible jewel: "They were bread for one purpose : Fighting, since at that time the popularity of having dogs fight was one in which the population had enjoyed as a betting sport.

Statistically speaking, more people are bitten by toy breeds each year than by "bully" breeds. The unfortunate part is that the toy breeds don't have the ability to inflict deadly damage.

I have 3 dogs. A mastiff/pit-bull male named Kash and two Presas, Kemo and Kaya my 2.5 year old female. I also have permanent custody of my 9 year old daughter who the dogs listen to as if I had commanded them myself.

All this "bully" breed nonsense and pitbull ban legislation is just more liberal chicken-shit BS being turned into law based solely upon ignorance and fear.

We have a lot of squirels at my place, because we have a lot of oak trees.
My dogs kill about one squirrel per week; every one has had their face/nose bitten more than once. They have learned to power through and kill the squirrel as the quickest way to end the pain.
I feel bad for the dogs, but i laugh anyway.

The occasional possum is in fact rare. Cats are much more common and Kemo has already voiced his displeasure with them. They cut through my yard from one neighbor to the next. We have quite the feral cat problem here. Kash has one cat kill to his credit.

Kemo was named in honor of my friend who had breast cancer and survived. She actually came up with the name.
