Why ride 'em? Two-wheeled death traps.
My best (female) friend from high school lost her dad this evening in a bike wreck. Very nice guy, was only in his early 60s. Pretty sure he had a Harley. Don't know any details other than the obvious. |

Cars and trucks, why drive'em? Four-wheeled death traps. |

Many things we do are to relieve the stress and or boredom of everyday life. Some of it is risk mgmt, some people jump out of airplanes. I have done that but would not do that again.
Riding a bike is a risk, no question, I have had close calls. Most of the accidents could have been avoided if the rider had taken the basic riding class. Many people don't know how to ride but buy a bike and wobble off. Several salesmen have told me stories of people crashing before they got out of the parking lot. |

majority of people on this planet are self serving morons; based upon how they drive. (IMHO)
I've had more close calls than I care to remember, because some dipshit had their head up their ass (phone, eating, talking) in their car/truck, instead of paying attention to where they were going and what was going on around them. sure, there are some asshole MC riders out there, but I'm pretty sure they're a fraction of a percentage vs. assholes in cars. why ride a MC? It's a MC thing, you wouldn't understand |

I also hear that alot and do agree to some exten, Im still not sure on it being the majority because if it were really true then there wouldnt be anyone left riding them and i do see more and more on the road every year. not defending anyone who rides a bike like a tard but if it scares you in your cage then maybe the road just isnt for you. I ride because i enjoy it, had my first wreck in 15 years of riding this month still pretty busted up but i will be back on it soon enough and cant wait. I get alot of close calls everytime i share the road with those 4 wheeled death traps but like anything else i drive defensively stay as undistracted as possible and keep moving down the road. also not going to let other people make that decision for me it just means i have a little extra work to do when im on the road around cars. I never said it scares me. If a rice rocket pilot wants to take on my F150, so be it. I have no problem with assisted suicide. |

I ride for many reasons. You are part of the environment when on a bike. All the different smells, sights, sounds, feelings when riding is hard to describe to one that doesn't ride. You are part of the moment, all your senses are heightened and you are extremely aware of your surroundings.
Absolutely nothing beats a long trip on a bike, especially a multi-day camping adventure. It changes your whole outlook on life.

I ride because it's enjoyable. It's the closest you get to flying without leaving the ground.
It's a risk, but it's easily mitigated. Mostly, I don't commute during normal times since I work nights, so that reduces traffic and the associated risk. I also don't push my limits, or my bike's limits. A lot of riders are hurt or killed when they do stupid shit. If you can avoid that, you're already ahead. That does still leave dipshit cagers doing stupid shit. Avoidance and constant heightened situational awareness is critical. And gear. Good gear, worn ALL THE TIME. All The Gear, All The Time = ATGATT. I've been riding for three years now and haven't gone down. Had a couple situations that puckered my butthole, but nothing too serious. |

I've owned and ridden a motorcycle for almost forty years now and apparently wouldn't have it any other way.
Five years ago I thought it was getting to dangerous to ride so I decided to buy a two seat roadster and sell the bike. Turns out that I just couldn't sell the bike - riding has been part of my life forever and as much as I wanted I just couldn't sell the thing. So now every time I'm driving my roadster and I pass a bike I wish I was on my bike, and every time I'm on my bike and pass a roadster I wish I was in my roadster.......

I ride a motorcycle 7 days a week. I commute on my bike. I go grocery shopping on my bike. I go on dates on my bike. I go out and ride just for the hell of it on my bike.
Sure I have a car, but it bores me to death. People like you will just never understand the sheer joy of riding. I'm genuinely sorry for you. |

Why ride 'em? I like to go fast. It's a lot more fun than driving a car. It's a risk some of us are willing to take. They aren't for everyone. This. I don't even see riding a motorcycle as taking a risk; it's about as risky as walking out my front door, tripping on the step, and dying from head trauma. |
