I just bought a '96 F150. The air felt cool but not cold. Today I put my manifold gauges on.
I took a static reading before starting the truck. High and low side matched and was just under the ambient temperature outside. Upper 80's. Good. I started truck and wedged the pedal at around 1,500 rpms, cranked the air and shut doors/windows. Compressor was cycling on and off every few seconds. Low side would drop to just above 20 and high a little over 250 and low pressure switch would cut out clutch. Then low would shoot up to about 50 and high drop to a little under 250 then compressor kicks back on. I didn't want to add any r134a at those numbers. I jumped the plug at the pressure switch. Clutch kicked in and stayed on. Low side dropped to almost nothing while high started climbing. I've never seen this before. I quickly plugged it back into the pressure switch. Any opinions on what's going on? |

Low on freon. Recover and recharge with proper charge amount. Likely this... built up enough pressure to run the compressor then the pressure dropped and the compressor stopped. Repeat. Fill that fucker up. I'd use some of the shit with the lubricating oil in it, too. |
but seriously, it sounds like you have a partially plugged condenser or restriction on the high side.
