John Stossel's Politically Incorrect History Lesson

Tonight's FBN show: Politically Incorrect History
By John Stossel

Did you know: Unions created the middle class, made workers safer, and helped blacks?

Actually, unions didn't. Free markets created the middle class, and the AFL's president, in support a law that protected union jobs, lamented that "colored labor is being sought to demoralize wage rates."

Did you know that FDR's New Deal solved the Great Depression?

Actually, it didn't. It's uncertainty, big spending, and regulation that prolonged the Depression. FDR's Treasury Secretary, Henry Morgenthau, admitted: "We have tried spending money. We are spending more than we have ever spent before and it does not work."

Did you know that Herbert Hoover made the Depression worse because as president...he did nothing? The Washington Post believes that. In 2008, the paper claimed GW Bush was "today's Herbert Hoover" because of his "dogged resistance to assisting anybody."

Actually, Hoover increased spending by 53.5% during his presidency. He signed bad big-government bills like the Davis-Bacon Act and the Smoot-Hawley Tariff. He started huge public works projects like the Hoover Dam. Hoover was a big spender –– like Obama.

I'll have more examples tonight at 10pm ET, repeating Sat. and Sun. at 9pm and midnight ET. So much of what we think we know...is wrong.

I've always liked this guy.

Me too. I don't have TV anymore, but I watch bits of his shows online. I read one of his books long ago (long enough that I don't remember what it was )

I'll throw one in: the government law that ended child labor really didn't. Child labor was mostly a thing of the past when the law passed; banning child labor when it was required would have been stupid. The one area where child labor was significant at that point was agriculture, which was exempt from the ban.

But of course, everyone knows that the government cares more about children then their parents do . . .

Here's another.

"Greenpeace" never "Saved The Whales," but "Big Oil" did.

Whales were about hunted to extinction, not by the end of the 20th Century as some would have you believe, but by the end of the 19th Century. Whale oil was the primary means of providing industrial lubrication and illumination until fossil fuels were discovered and refined at the end of the 19th Century. People have no idea how essential whale oil was to life and industry at that time, nor do they have any idea that whaling fleets were on every ocean across the globe to meet that demand.

"Big Oil" grew exponentially because of the automobile and the internal combustion engine, but its beginnings and establishment came about because whales were becoming tougher to find and more expensive to hunt. Sun Oil Company, better known as SUNOCO today, got its "Sun" name because their fossil fuels replaced whale oils for illumination. "Big Oil," by making the production and refining of fossil fuels far less expensive than whale derived oil, largely put an end to whaling, and saved whales species that truly were at the brink of extinction.

This `is what pisses me off the most about the Democrats.  They are always trying to rewrite history.   They say one thing one day, then say something else the next day.   Completely contradicting statements at best, completely misleading statements being actual lies at worst.

Just like their policies have changed completely since 2006.   Damn, I hate the lying bastages.

Oh, I should mention that I am so happy that they care about the children like they do.

Hunters have snatched more species from the brink of extinction than any animal rights group has.
