Are there any quality mini laptops out there ? I want a laptop with a 7" screen and do not want the slow, crappy spec Chinese ones floating around for less than $100. I've been searching on ebay for awhile and anything quality is at least 9 or 10 inches.

Maybe I am not searching right. I am not a computer guy.

I want it for web browsing and do not want it to be a dinosaur with super slow specs.

I would like to spend around $300 thought that is something I could consider spending more or less if needed.

I don't need the greatest and latest. My main home laptop is 1500 MHz, 1.5 GHZ, 1 GB RAM and I am very happy with that.

Do they even make laptops that small or are you looking for a netbook?

I got my eMachines laptop from Radio Shack last year for around $300. It's worked just fine for me. My biggest complaint is that there is no CD drive, but I got a Samsung external CD drive for pretty cheap. Unless you have something really special in mind, I'd recommend them.

FWIW, I take mine stormchasing.

Asus is a good option (had one, killed it by dropping it out of a moving ambulance), the HP mini is another, I am posting from one right now. Owned both, paid less then $320 for each, both running windows 7.

Try looking at the tablet lines...

They're kind of between a cell phone and a laptop. I've got a Toshiba netbook that only cost $400 or so a couple years ago and I'm happy with it. I won't be cracking any passwords or major CPU intensive stuff but it's fine for surfing the web and checking email and such.

I know a guy who purchased an IPad and it is cool.  I really don't like the Apple stuff, but I might consider getting one for web surfing.

Well you want to stick with something Windows or Linux based.

And I assume the latter is out.

Tigerdirect, netbooks from Asus or cheaper from a company called Hannspree.

I have one of each and they're pretty good little machines.

They offer netbooks with dual cores now, and then just max out the memory, you're set.

With Windows you can turn off some of the visual effects and tweak the OS to run leaner thus faster.

Anything Android based that I've played with thus far has been terrible.

I'm not even interested in that google cloud shit.

Buy the biggest battery you can.

btw, Tigerdirect carries refurb units too, so you may get a little further with your money going that route.

But I think my Hanspree was only about $250 new, it's a Windows 7 unit.

Toshiba NB505.

$303 OTD at Best Buy.

10.1" screen, Windows 7 Starter. You can buy a 2GB memory stick to upgrade from 1GB for like $30.

Been very happy with mine so far...
