For some reason, after living here for 3y, I feel the need to pick up renters insurance. The issue is there is a huge disparity in prices/coverage. What coverage do you have? If you don't mind, could you list your policy coverage, deductible and cost? Thanks in advance guys. |

Quoted: Whatever you get, get RCV coverage (Replacement cost value). If a 5 year old TV gets busted, you'll get paid to purchase a new TV of similar size. With ACV coverage (Actual Cash Value), you'll get paid for a 5 year old TV... which is a whole lot of dick. Good advice. Please keep it rolling in. |

You will likely have a choice between "All Risk" or "Named Peril" policies. Named peril means you are insured for a set list of things (Fire, lightning, etc.) "All Risk" means you are covered for every possible scenario, except for a set list of exclusions (Flood, Earthquake, intentional damage on your part, wear/tear/neglect, etc.) Keep in mind that any list of exclusions sounds worse than it is. You basically aren't covered for groundwater of any kind, earth movement, or stupid shit. You are still covered for perils that occur after or because of something that isn't covered. Example: Earthquake fucks your apartment up... not covered. Loots hit your apartment after an earthquake... covered. Natural gas line erupts after an earthquake and your shit is toasted... covered. |

Guys.
If you don't have renters insurance you need to get some ASAP. It's not very expensive and it will cover your ass. Make sure you have enough coverage to cover all your stuff. Trust me, you dont want to come home to a smoldering pile of shit that was your apartment and realize you only had enough coverage for 10% of your stuff. BTDT. Get it. It's cheap. Quoted: I had $30,000.00 replacement insurance from State farm.. Around $13.00 a month when I had it.. I had a $1,500.00 custom Ibanez guitar stolen out of my car and they covered it.. I just set up a policy (waiting on call from agent) from State Farm. Wanted $225 vs up to $500 at all others for more coverage. I was also able to separately cover my computers and guns in this policy. Brilliant, hopefully it goes through. |

In my limited experience, renters insurance is too cheap to not have. I think I paid something like $150 for one year including liability, which was a bargain when someone broke in and stole two laptops, a DSLR and lenses, my Kimber, and a few other things. I had Progressive, and even they covered the gun. I only wish I would have had full replacement and not just cash value. |
| When I had renters insurance I got like 30k worth and it wasy maybe 10-15 bucks a month. This is important because if your shit really did burn up you need to figure how much it would cost to replace everything. Sure, the TV, stereo and XBox could be a grand but you could easily have 10x that in clothes, dishes, furniture and gold bullion. |

I rent. I don't have insurance. I've thought about it but my guns are my most valuable things and I've heard most companies won't cover them. I've never even looked into it. ![]() State farm will. I'm about to put all my guns on my policy. It's about 20 bucks a year per thousand i think. If anything happens to them they are replaced no questions asked. Right now they are covered if they're stolen or damaged in the house. After i do the rider policy they're covered no matter what. |

I pay $115 a year for $20,000 replacement coverage. Also up to $2000 in firearms included. It worked great when I had a burglary in January. The dumb asses didn't even take anything good just an xbox, a ten year old laptop for netflix, a few boxes of ammo, and an Israeli gas mask without the cartridge.

Get it. I had 17 weapons stolen in one burglary, and no insurance. It took me years to replace those firearms.
I had State Farm renter's insurance after that, with a $20K firearms rider. Cost me $28 a month. SF requires a serno/description along with description/cost of all upgrades for firearms riders. |

I haven't done insurance defense work in decades, but i was surprised that renter's insurance sometimes has a liability coverage and that it's pretty cheap. I defended a guy who accidentally shot someone on an insurer's tab because he bought a $ 60ish a year renter's policy (plinking in the woods without knowing his backstop, not any big HEAT shoot out or anything0 |

Usually under $75 per year (unless you have a very nice collection). |
