I'm no Rocket Surgeon, but I was thinking about the ICC and the price of gasoline.

One of the reasons gas has gotten more expensive  over the years is all of the different blends of gasoline that different states require. If there was one blend of gas that wasnt seasonal, then it would cost less to refine gas and it would be less expensive.

So if the ICC is the crutch this administration is relying on to hobble us with Obamacare, why cant the ICC be used to regulate/mandate one universal blend of gas, thereby lowering the overall cost to consumers?

I don't believe that would pass the nexus test.

For what its worth, I paid $3.16/gallon for regualr unleaded in Corinth AL last Saturday, exact same gas was $3,39/gal thirty miles away.

This. The solution to high gas prices is not government regulation.

While it might be possible to use the ICC to mandate 1 blend of gas to rule them all in order to take advantage of economies of scale in theory it will never be done because our overlords want high gas prices as it makes it' harder for the subjects to be less reliant on government if engery were cheap.

This what I was thinking along the lines of. I dont like over regulation or big Government anymore than anyone else. I do find the irony exquisite however that its possible to use the the same weapon the liberal left is in their attempt to foist a mass of regulations imposing their agenda on us, to impose some common sense in regulation AND make things easier on those of us who dont have govt aircraft at their disposal.

All jesting aside, is there a legitimate reason this could not happen?

Someone may be along later to explain but my understanding is there is a reason we have different blends in Denver than Houston.

You say this as if the choice is between regulated or non regulated.

In fact, the choice presented is between complex, byzantine, and inconsistent regulations and the OP's proposed uniform regulations.

I think that you MisUnderstand the situation.  The Interstate Commerce Clause is the Reason that we DO have so many different Gasoline Blends.  It is the EPA that is forcing the Different Blends on the States and the Cities.

It's the feds regulating different blends for different areas. Many regions with higher population densities are required to have E10....which is why you can't find a single station selling pure gasoline here anymore.

You are right. Different altitudes have different fuel requirements.
