NBC and CBS both covering the angle of all the NASA employees losing their jobs.
What ever happened to America the Great. |

After reading some internal documents, Nasa never had any interest or desire to open up space or lower the cost of lifting. That was their and the nations failure.
We are in a very difficult position but its possible the private sector can succeed. 2012 will be the year we know for sure our future in space. |

This. I hope those who lost their jobs get picked up by private industry where the real innovation occurs so we can get some real work done. some will most will not, Space x's goal is to make space travel affordable, something that NASA never considered Burt Rutan once told me that NASA stands for "Needs Adult Supervision, Apparently". |

Under most circumstances I'm in favor of the goverent staying out of things but orbital space travel (and beyond) is not one of them.
There are too many risks and variables involved. Private companies will be hamstrung by insurance companies. Even Rutan agrees. As awesome as it was to stand on the beach and watch the shuttle launch today, I mourn the loss of the manned American space program. My father saw the peak of western civilization on Tv when the Eagle landed. |
