Aren't they owned by the same company that owns Hipoint?

I've been interested in the 2" Rhino for pocket carry, but someone posted an AAR in the Handgun forum that didn't seem to promising.

Sorry, not for me.

So WTF, the barrel is lined up with the BOTTOM of the cylinder?
7/3/2011 3:19:00 PM EDT
[#11]
I am going to buy one, I'm just waiting for the updated model with the lighter DA trigger pull.

ETA: Some other members have already purchased them and commented favorably on them, both in GD and the Revolver forum.  What rock did y'all just crawl out from under, this isn't new unless your only news source is Shotgun News.

G&A reviewed it a couple of months ago. Apparently its got a pretty complex trigger mechanism, but makes a noticeable improvement in recoil.

I want their snubbie. I already have a Mateba.
7/3/2011 3:29:34 PM EDT

It's made for people with small hand's..

No really. I have large hands and im tired of handguns with small grips.

well i've been wondering what the full sized version looks like.  i've only see the snubbie so far.  now i know.

Did you see the pic of the internals at the link OP provided?  Looks like lots of parts to screw up inside there.

I shot a few cylinders of ammo through one a few times the other week at my club's bowling pin shoot. A member who's an FFL brought out a bunch of toys to try. And a 3" Chiappa Rhino was in his collection.

It's no pre-lock S&W in the fit/finish department, however it was still very decent.

Trigger pull on DA and "cocked" in SA (the lever on top of the frame is not really the hammer, just a linkage) is nice. Kind of long in DA, but not overly hard to pull. Single action was much shorter, but not a crisp "glass rod snapping" like a S&W single action break.

Overall, it was not very crisp in the trigger department, but nothing that's a show stopper with some practice.

The AMAZING thing however is the recoil. Maybe it's just me, but I percieve recoil more as muzzle flip, than the overall force. Full house 125gr .357 magnums felt like light .38 target wadcutters.

Lightweight .38 target wadcutters feel like .22LR. Holy shit.. the claimed recoil effects of shooting from the bottom chamber, they aren't lying, not a bit.

I'm pretty well stocked up on wheel guns right now, but I'd definitely consider a Chiappa Rhino in the future.

One gun review I read said the gun worked properly but it was not "flawless." (Or something to that effect.)

That makes me think some bugs may need to be worked out.

it's not WTF.

the configuration reduces muzzle flip and in general felt recoil, because the bore axis is much more in line with the shooters arm, rather than above it.

was mine, id get a special metal grip made for it and have it sharpened so that once you run out of bullets, you could use it like a tomahawk.

pass, wasn't that impressed with them when I handled them at the NRA show

Just because you can isn't always a good reason. (Build it or want it)
7/3/2011 6:41:06 PM EDT

Not my cup of tea, but the recoil dampening of full house .357 rounds sounds interesting.

If they are competing for the ugliest gun of the century award... they win, hands down.

I saw a snub nose at the PX here....  I didn't touch it, but it looked very bulky for what it was.

Not to mention the greater amount of mass above the bore axis.

I am waiting for a 4-inch stainless model and then I'll be all over it like Anthony Weiner sexting a porn star.
ETA:  WARNING; this firearm requires a different grip, apparently.  I don't want to retrain.  I suppose I'll pick up a traditional .357 revolver eventually.

If I'd finished all the builds I had yet to do, and if I'd bought all the ammo stockpiles I needed, and if I'd worked my way through the list of guns that I would like (including a PTR91, Monolithic rail Operator, and a Sig552-style rebuild of my Sig556), and if I'd completed all my other preps, THEN that would be the first thing I would buy.
7/3/2011 8:04:49 PM EDT
[#47]

Same designer, if that helps. Every day you wait, the prices on the remaining Mateba's in circulation goes up...

And aside from the auto cocking function, it's pretty much the same concept. The bottom barrel is 90% of the function. I'm kind of surprised there haven't been more bottom chamber revolvers over time.

If you want a stainless - well, brushed nickel -  here you go, although they're asking way too much:

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=239459855

I handled a 4" and a 6" at a gunstore. I love the way they feel, natural pointers. As soon as I'm able, I'm getting a 4" version.

If you ask nicely I'm sure they would paint one pink for you, so as not to offend your stylistic sensibilities.

Function brings its own beauty to form.
