A little more than a year ago I embarked on a journey to build my very own AR-15. Thanks to MSC182, and SouthEndXGF for taking me out and firing my first ever AR, after one pull of the trigger I was hooked. We made a trip out to Caddo Mills to Ammo Depot for MSC182 and SouthEndXGF to obtain 7.62 X 54R for their newly acquired Mosin Nagants. It was at this time my journey began.

I had looked at many stripped lowers but always seemed to come back to the beautiful DPMS Panther Arms lowers. I pulled out my newly acquired CHL and made the purchase of $99 for the stripped lower, and $65 for the DPMS lower parts kit.  After a wonderful day back at the range it was time to head home and put my stripped lower and parts kit together. After launching my fair share of springs and a trip to the fun store to purchase more springs my stripped lower was assembled.

After a few months me and the fellas went to the local fun show for some perusing and this is where I obtained my telescoping stock. After a few borrowed tools and some aggravation  due to my buffer tube detent breaking the lower is complete.

This is where thing really slowed down. The spousal unit became pregnant (kid due any day now). After much saving and getting nurseries ready it was time to complete my weapon. Thanks to Midway running a sale I obtained a DPMS full upper for a reasonable $369. The same day I went to my local Cabela's to walk around and just look when I came to the optics section. Before I know it I have walked out with a Vortex Strikeforce Red Dot Optic. I went home and put everything together.

Before anyone says anything iron sights are on back order and supposed to arrive in the next week or so. I welcome your thoughts, comments, suggestions.

It looks good.  You will need a higher mount to cowitness with irons though.  Let us know how it shoots.

You might be right.  All I have ever used was the lower 1/3.  I never tried the absolute cowitness.

I was hoping for a public flogging at least.

I have an Eotech on my 16" and an Aimpoint on my 20". Both co-witnes with no riser. They're made with that in mind.

Hey, you gotta start somewhere and you had some good help.

I had a friend show up here with an SP-1 when I was in my teens and I was hooked.

I started with a Colt AR15A2 HBAR and an Oly Car-15, still have them.

Beware, the BRD. I'm in way over my head. A spare part will turn into a complete rifle if you don't watch.

Nice gun; those Strikefire's are pretty decent for the money.

Congrats. It is a good feeling to put your first together and even better when you pull the trigger for the first time.

How do you like that optic?

I've been looking for a decent red dot that will actual stay zeroed to my AR, put up with a little abuse, and not cost me $500+

Do you have a sling for it?

Haven't taken it out yet I will hopefully have a range report pretty quick depending on when my son is born.
