That was might first thought.  A couple of photos of him and dear leader hugging during the upcoming election would have been fun.

There's a difference between trying to hide something, and trying to weasel out of answers, which is what Clinton did - and Weiner's attitude of not only attacking the press on every front, but also voluntarily choosing to go to interviews, and having press conferences - and looking the camera (and major news figures) in the eye and directly lying, day after day.

If he had admitted it and acted contrite when the story first broke, he would not have been forced to resign.

If he had just hidden, refused to answer questions, and waited for it to blow over, he might not have been forced to resign.

But it was his aggressively dishonest attitude to dealing with this that brought him down.  (In part because the media felt betrayed, and then decided not to let go, I think).

I`m sooooooooooo glad he doesn`t get all the benefits HE thinks he had coming. Fuck him.

So now he`s married to a really pissed off lesbian muslim. He`s stuck in Brooklyn without a paycheck. Cell phone was cancelled by wife and now he has a tin can and a string. Maybe he`ll get a job as a male stripper in a shopping mall for the elderly. May he have flats on his car every day for the rest of his life.

This is not something we libertarians/conservatives would want.

Imagine a tainted Weiner running for re-election in 2012.  That would be great stuff for any Tea Party/GOP anywhere in the nation.

You can tie a lot of Democrats to Weiner.

Now that Weiner is out of the way, it is harder to tie Democrats to him.

I think it is a great loss. Does anyone really think that his seat is going to go to someone who is less of a collectivist firebrand than Weiner? And just think how much fun it would have been to watch Weiner flounder around on the Hill wounded like this.

Clinton was as aggressively dishonest as Weiner.  Also lied to his cabinet and supporters that the charges against him were baseless, BASELESS and the result of a right wing conspiracy to stop him from helping the American people.  And they believed him

Unlike Weiner who apparently did this stuff from his private phone and account and never actually touched a woman nor broke a law, Clinton pressured Lewinsky to lie under oath and promised jobs in exchange for cooperating.  He conducted his physical acts of adultery on US government property and conducted phone sex with Lewinsky on government lines, was impeached by the US House of Representatives and was eventually disbarred for attempting to obstruct justice.

By every measure what Clinton did was far worse than what Weiner did.

I agree that what Clinton did was as bad or worse - I was just trying to explain WHY Weiner was basically hounded out of office.

I think it's because Wiener did his aggressive lying in public, and voluntarily had press conferences and went to interviews in order to do so.  He DREW attention to himself.

Clinton did most of his aggressive lying behind the scenes - in private to his Cabinet, and to a grand jury behind closed doors, etc.  In public, he tried to AVOID drawing attention to himself, and tried to parse words and avoid questions in order to not tell the aggressive lies in public or to the media.

Ultimately, it's one more illustration of how good Slick Willie was at managing things, and how stupid and arrogant Wiener was.  Plus, I don't think Clinton pissed off the press or attacked them (instead claiming political conspiracies)
