i am looking at an auto gate opener but know nothing about them. I am leaning towards this model http://www.gateoperator.net/Products/Apollo/apl1500.html in the 1550 series. This will be used on a 14' heavy duty cattle gate. There is another gate operner called the mighty mule but i heard hit/miss stories about it. Any real world input would be great.

I've been using an Apollo 1500 with a solar charger on a 16' heavy metal gate for about 6 years without a problem. I've replaced one 12v deep cycle battery in that time. Not cheap though. http://www.apollogate.com/c-8-SwingGates.aspx |

Sometimes winds over 30 mph will cause a hard shutdown, but I think I can tweak it. |

Mighty Mule SUCKS! Mine now lays in the weeds after working 16 months. I never could get anyone to answer the 1 800 # either. The first on we had that used the separate box for the electrics SUCKED! The replacement that has everything enclosed inside the opener has worked great. Apollo is probably more reliable on a heavy iron gate. |
