anybody ever broken a spark pulg?

I have the plug out, and the ceramic is broken apart from the steel thread part.

It was creating a massive leak on my 88 f150 I6

Its an autolite 5125.  the plug is less than a year old

fuck autolite

Yup. We were trying to get a crossthreaded spark plug out of my car because it was killing the performance [This is a good reason not to let others do the maintenance on your car] and we ended up breaking two craftsman tools and the spark plug. We had to drill it out, retap the spark plug socket, and clean out the shavings.

It sucked. But afterwards, my car ran great.

Pretty common, and I've had to wrestle with the damned things before. I believe your '86 has the older design of spark plugs, wait until you see some of the early 90's type, they're 50x worse for coming apart on removal.

There's a broken spark plug removal tool that every Ford owner should have. Here's a blog post talking about the tool, and one of Ford's worst spark plug designs: Clicky I believe that type of plug, with the long, unthreaded shaft heading down into the cylinder, requires anti-seize on the UNTHREADED portion.

ETA: My bad, I see you have an '88 instead of an '86. My eyes must be going south.
