When there is a stiff breeze blowing you aren't warm, you are comfortable. I enjoy feeling the wind blow on me and I like hearing nature sounds as I drive along. Maybe black people just like being comfortable? |

Quoted:
If their windows are up, they can't inspire those around them with their wonderful and uplifting musical selections. You may be on to something. It's even worse while you are pumping gas and one pulls along side the gas pump and turns the engine off,but leaves that lovely melody going so everyone can enjoy it. |

No fights reported in my local paper. Lots of accidents, crashes, and rescues though. |

I am white. I drive a lot with the windows down instead of AC. I enjoy the breeze. Same with me. I have an hours commute on the Interstate, and it's 65 with the window down all the way. To me, air conditioning is for stop and go traffic when there is no breeze. |

I always thought it was people that could only afford their monthly payment, but couldn't afford gas for the huge, ego-boosting, attention whoring SUV.
Why else would you be rolling in a 'luxury' car- with the windows down??? Not to mention- the dust makes the care dirtier, so you have to have it detailed more often, you get dust and dirt in your stereo, and it messes up the headliner. bonus fact- most cars these days are more aerodynamic with the windows up, so you actually reduce your gas mileage with the windows down. |
|
Quoted: I was told that out west it is better to do that than use the AC because you wont be as shocked when you get out of the car I've been to Phoenix in August. Fuck. That. Shit. As soon as the key is in the ignition the ac is cranked as high as it will go. I find that cracking the windows for a few minutes helps push the hot air out as the cold comes in through the vents and the vehicle feels cooler faster. |

OP..
I do this.. < but i am not the demograpic i think you are thinking about in your OP > I dont like the feel of the enclosed space < windows up > yes im serious : shrug : so i drive with the air on and the windows down.. well.... my window. drives the GF NUTS.. yes its hot outside.. i have the vents pointed directly at me and the hot air hits me from the open window. LOVE it. I do think some people do it because thre shit is simply broke and they cant afford to fix the air.. coudl be as simple as that ... i dont think they are many like me that LIKE the hot air and cold air mix and do it on by design.. I think if they had a choice they would roll with the windows up. |

I wonder about the same thing...I commute into DC and it get sticky oppressive 'you can't breathe' hot here,l and I have nothing to do during my long hours of commute but listen to music and watch folks, and it has become a game of sorts with me. When I roll up to a car with the windows down, it is almost always black drivers.
Another trend I have noticed in my almost twenty years (almost typed tears - what a Freudian slip) is that the overwhelming majority of female drives hold the steering wheel tightly with both hands, while most males tend to take a less severe one handed hold. I'm not trying to be racists or sexist - these are just predominant patterns I see day in day out, every week, every month, every year. |
