What's a decent complete golf set (clubs, bag, etc) for an intermediate player? Not looking to spend thousands, but I don't want a cheap piece of crap either. Something middle of the road that will last. Any thoughts? Thanks. |

There's so much good used stuff on the market from players who look for the next best gimmick, that you can play with the same equipment that the pros use for probably under $600. Anything by Titliest, Taylor Made, Callaway, Cleveland, or Ping is going to be good stuff. |

Go here and read up on what goes into clubs, shafts, etc. I got a set comparable to a good Cleveland set for 1/3rd the price. Learning about shaft measuring and selecting as well as how clubs are made and fitted will help immensely. Even if you don't buy here at least you can educate yourself enough to make selecting a good set for you much easier. http://www.pinemeadowgolf.com/ ETA: Measuring and fitting are just as important as who makes or uses the clubs. You could use Tiger Wood's set from last year but unless you have the same shaft length requirement and same swing they won't be of much use. This is where a good pro shop can be a great help, but at least getting a basic idea of what you are looking at and for will be a big help. |

Boutique makers such as KZG, Wishon, Scratch, SMT, Alpha. Driver makers such as Krank, Geek, Bang....there's a fair amount of reputable "knock off" and boutique makers. They're every bit as good as the "big guys". Just less overhead and they don't tend to sponsor folks... If you want one of the Callaway, Taylormade, etc....EBay is your friend. Callaway pre-owned also has some pretty decent deals...as does Global Golf. |

The truth is that the $199 set of clubs at Walmart is better than the best shit made in 1985, so unless you're a scratch golfer it doesn't fucking matter really. I play a 15 year old set of Cobra-knockoffs, but the critical thing is that they fit me. That's more important than anything else, IMHO. |
