I've got too many plants in my yard. I've got two of the green bins, but I can't get rid of the trimmings fast enough. I've come to the conclusion that I need a chipper/shredder either to fit the stuff in the green bins, or spread it out under the trees. My problem is, there are dozens of different brands, all claiming to be the most reliable, optimally designed, and of course the best value on the planet.
I've figured out that I probably want to stay away from Troybilt thanks to a host of less than stellar reviews on Amazon, but there isn't alot of info on the alternatives. I'm currently leaning toward a Patriot. They have mostly good reviews. I can get it with a Vanguard or Honda motor, and the design looks relatively compact. Alll of these things are pretty spendy, so I'd appreciate help separating the wheat from the chaff. Thanks in advance! |

I don't know anything about the current quality (or lack thereof) of TroyBilt products, but I can tell you that I bought a TroyBilt chipper/shredder in 1991, used it during one summer, and then put it away in my basement until last summer. When I went to start it up, with new gas in the tank, it started on the second or third pull and ran like a charm.
So, I'm a happy camper. |

If youre just going to use it once, Why not see if you can rent one from Home Depot or another equipment rental place. I've done that in the past but then the stuff sits around in piles until there is enough to justify the hassle of renting one. Currently, I just don't prune more than I can fit in the bins, but then I can't keep up with it. Where I'd like to be is in a position where if I spend a couple of hours pruning, I can prune, and dispose of all the trimmings at the same time so that there are no piles. I want time and inclination to limit the pruning, instead of waste diposal. |
