It is the
VETERAN,
not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the politician,
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the
VETERAN who
salutes the Flag,

It is
the
VETERAN
who serves
under the Flag,

ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM.

Excellent post. There are many that forget why they have that extra day off; the first comic really nails it. Thank you to our troops, past, present, and future. Without you, we'd be nothing.

I'm sure everyone here knows it, but if not, don't forget to fly your flag at half-mast until noon on Monday and then raise it to full height.

I will be lowering the Colors where I work at dawn (0528). They were looking for volunteers and I figured it is my honor to do it, since I am not across the pond right now getting my boots dirty it is the least I can do. As I lower the flag, I will reflect upon all those that have gone before me to give me the freedoms I enjoy. When it is half-staff, I will render a sharp salute.
