What are your thoughts on this?  Do you think we will reach it in the not so distant future?

I hope I'm an old man when our machines decide to wipe us out.

Is it inevitable?

I always thought it depends on the development of artificial intelligence.  Sounds like Moore's Law is going to hold true for awhile, and when computers can design their own replacements with minimum human interaction the doubling of processing speed might be better measured in weeks or days.  Very soon you could put truly ridiculous computing power into creating other forms of new tech.  I could imagine new tech pouring out of an AI operated factory faster than we can comprehend it, let alone assimilate it.

"Todays output is artificial gravity, a warp drive, teleporter, time machine, and, ah, what the fuck is this, AI?"
"It calculates the meaning of blue and converts the answer into antiquarks, which are accelerated to C and used to un-flarrginflastate the Nth dimensional portal, widdershins.  Obviously."
"Riiiiight, uh, Un-Flarrginflastater, got it, please print a label for the box.  And we're definitely going to need an owner's manual for that."

John Koza built the first version, it already happened. I'm convinced that whatever does do us in ( if it goes down like that ) will trace its roots back to this guy. Read the article, it's worth it.
