I think they are gnats..but they are small and are in my house! They live around the sinks/tubs/shower and kitchen. Also the garbage can. I have sprayed the crap out of these mosters but they still keep birthing new ones. I noticed they surrounded a banana bunch on the kitchen counter like ants..so I sprayed the crap out of the bananas and counter. These little suckers are driving me crazy...even if I spray the garbage can or toilet or whatever they seem impervious tot he bug sprays...You can spray them and they land but then take off afterwards. I am at my wits end on how to stop them from breeding and flying in my house..they are driving me nuts!!

What can I do?? Anyone know of the creatures I speak of?

Probably fruit fly's. Remove all produce from the open as I think they breed in the skin. I'd wipe everything down with Clorox. Usually when I see them it's from old banana's.

This sucks! They keep flying around and I am spraying and swatting and they still are multiplying! I took the garbage out, put clorox in the toilets...man this is tiring.

Leave a cup by the sink with about 1" of red wine vinegar in it.

Also forgot to add, clean out your disposal with bleach because I think they can breed in there as well.

Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way.

Check your house plants a lot of times they infest the soil and you need to throw the plant out.

Get apple cider vinegar, put it in some shallow bowls around the house.  Then put a few DROPS, just a few, of dishwashing liquid into them.  Those son of a bitches will fall in, sink, and die.

The dishwashing liquid changes the surface viscosity.

Preventatively, rinse your fruit when you first bring it home, especially the nanners. This rinses the eggs off the fruit.

I had this problem last summer.  I had left a bag of potatoes in a cupboard that never gets used......
It was bad, very bad

Thats funny, I accidently solved my gnat problem last year by leaving out a glass of red wine.. It killed dozens of them.

Pour draino down all the sinks/bathtubs/etc. They can supposedly make nests in the drains. I had this same problem and the draino killed them for good.

I have been seeing the little bastards for the last two weeks or so, are you by chance in central FL?
I remember them last year around this time too; it may be a spring hatch of some sort of flying demons. I just swat the SOB's.

Fruit flies.

If you got kids, check their back packs for old apples.

We had to put all our office plants in one small office - seal it off - then fog - wait 3 days - then repeat.

Actually worked.

Northwest Florida and I hate these things!!  I've gone through 2 cans of spray and it only pisses them off..I have been swatting and killing but it ain't enough..how the heck are they repoducing so fast?? They annoy the crap outta me.

In the restaurant industry we call them drain flies. They really like the beer drains. got to get rid of the eggs or they keep coming back.

Fungus gnats

Hate'em.  One of the reasons why there has been a moratorium on having plants in my house.

They are almost gone at my house (Gainesville/Ocala area). I hope they clear out soon from your home as well. I also noticed them in rooms with drains and water (kitchen and bathroom), I just dont know how they got in the house. My method of removal was to turn on the lights in those rooms and commence to swatting them, kind of wish I had heard of the vinegar and soap concoction sooner.

It just wouldn't be Florida without the bugs.
Best of luck OP.

The red wine vinegar and dish washing liquid worked for me recently in my house. After dealing with them in my old rental I knew not to let it get out of hand. I put the red wine vinegar in old Gatorade bottles and poked holes in it. That way they would fly in, but couldn't get out.

The worst infestation I've ever had was when I was working away from home for several weeks while I was renting this duplex. Those suckers must have laid millions of eggs while I was gone. Enough that black stuff came out of the bath tub faucet when you turned the water on. They were everywhere and I couldn't kill them all.  It was a rental and I was moving out so I didn't really care. That place was a bug magnet. I'll never have vines or plants growing on or close to the house ever again.

Fucking Drain flys.

The vinegar traps work great to kill off those that hatch, but the little fuckers will keep hatching.

Just boil water, and run it down all the sink and shower drains a couple times to kill the Larvae and eggs. The nasty little things survive on the grease and scum before the P trap, so ya need to clean that out or deal with the damn things again.
