18yr old Glenfiddich is a bit thin and underwhelming. Certainly not worth the price. 12yr old Glenkinchie is very very tasty. 12 yr old Macallan Sherry Oak is the stuff myths are made of. Laphroaig Quarter Cask is damn hard to wade through, but when you do you are handsomely rewarded. |

I opened a bottle of Macallan 15 year sherry oak this weekend. It is indeed a very nice specimen - almost sweet in flavor. Edit: I spent a bit of time during my young son's last trip home introducing him to the world of whiskey (bourbon, scotch, Tennessee, single malt, blends, etc.). His question about halfway through the row was why all my bottles had corks instead of screw caps. "Spend more than $25 on a bottle and you get a cork to make it easy to get to the good stuff." |
