What's the deal with these? They look horribly uncomfortable to me. What do they offer over a vertical fore grip?

Simple ergonomics. For many, the angled foregrip feels more natural when you bring your carbine/rifle on target. than a forward pistol grip or standard handguards. Of course, YMMV.

And yes, I sport one on mine

Just another option, it's not for everyone, but more options, the better.

They offer a compromise between a vertical grip and nothing at all. Some people seem to use VFGs like hand stops and end up holding the VFG/foreend in a pretty similar way to what you get with the AFG. They work better than many VFGs on AKs as well.

It's cool if you find them comfortable. I just don't understand how any human can find them comfortable But I admit I've never felt one. Never even knew about them until a few days ago

I have always done the VFG as a hand stop thing so I thought the AFG would be good for me.  Tried it and hated it.  It felt like I couldn't get a good grip on it.  Decided to go with the RVG and I like it. light cheap and durable.

I like mine, it's feel great in the hand, almost a natural feeling.  I never liked the vertical grip for some reason.  This is just a thinking outside the box kind of grip.

I have one on a rifle.  It makes pulling the rifle into your shoulder easier.

I have one on my Hipoint 45 carbine.

It's alright, I don't use the elbow way out technique with it though.

Think of how you hold your offhand when you grip your pistol.

Wrapped around my stong hand, not a foot or so forward of it.

To each their own, though. Certainly worth giving one a try...

I went shooting the other day and used one for the first time and really like it.  Especially if you have the dual pushbutton switch for your light and laser, your hand is not as fatigued as when you do a "thumb up" grip with a VFG to access the buttons.

Replace strong hand with AFG.  Done.

My take on this is that on a lightweight build, or any rifle for competition I would run an AFG for sure.

On a heavier build such as my Sig556 (weighing in at 10.8lbs with a 30rd mag and optic), I prefer a sturdy pistol grip...makes it easier to carry and operate.
