Looking for a handheld Garmin that might be used as a supplemental tool overseas. Must have MGRS. Does not have to be advanced and complicated.
Your suggestions will be apprecated. |

Quoted: Thanks, all. Quoted: Etrex legend. It will display coordinates in MGRS and is the most bang for your buck, period. You can pick them up under $100 if you shop around. Are you referring to the Legend HCx for <$100? Yes. It's the simplest, non color, basic GPS that Garmin makes. It will however do everything you need it to, and if it gets confiscated by the @#^ Navy customs guys in Kuwait (make sure you wipe all the waypoints before you leave) or if it gets lost or broken you'll be out less $$. You aren't going to need turn by turn voice directions, or color maps, the monochrome topo maps you can find online for any garmin work fine with the legends. |

I'm getting it for my brother. From previous trips in that region, I don't recall anyone asking/searching for GPSs. Do they confiscate them or just ask that data is removed? |

That model typically sells for ~$175. Yep, Amazon has it for $171. Chairborne is referring to the non-color one. |
Does color really matter on a topo map? Here you go:http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=etrex+legend&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&hl=en&cid=10942964056527823093&os=sellers# |

BTW, color is not a deal maker or breaker, but the color one offer 25-hour battery life v. the non-color's 18-hour. |
