You could always go for marcus. Sound fairly normal and he can even go by mark if he prefers.

Magnus is pretty awesome though. The only way to make it better is for the last name to be magnusson.

I like roman/latin names also. My brothers name is Marcus.

The current USFOR-A commander, GEN. Petraeus, has a cool last name.
