So: you are a Lieutenant on the Galaxy-class starship Enterprise, and you have your young family aboard, since that is permitted in Starfleet. In a tense stand-off during a time of instability, a Cardassian ship fires on the Enterpise, killing your wife and one of your children (and the number of times the Enterprise was hit, this must have happend at least a few times).

Some time later, when relations with the Cardassians have returned to normal, you are on bridge duty when the Enterprise rondezevous with a Cardassian ship....maybe even the one that killed your family....and what, you are expected to sit there like a uniformed mannequin, and not un-cap the phaser button and wreak some vengance? Or have such reactions been bred out of the human race by then?

I would instead quietly press the Fire button on the weapons platform which would launch Nexus-7 out of the photon torpedo tube with a grenade in his left hand, a spork clenched between his gleaming teeth and a wicked case of herpes directly at the Cardassian ship.

Afterwards, the survivors would have an Earl Grey, Hot on the veranda.

You could just be super creepy and just recreate your family in the holoroom and live there!

In the Federation it takes more courage to retreat than advance. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, comrade.

How long after WW2 did US Forces slaughter Germans and Japanese?

I don't know how I would deal with that.

I'd probably have to have a conference (someone else here made this joke before).

I do enjoy ST: TNG though.

Not quite the same... considering the mainland was never attacked.

I am sure our occupation forces had reason to kill some, at least for awhile. The difference is in the star trek universe mankind is a bunch of PC pussies. I doubt the federation would occupy anyone. Although the reboot of the series looks good so far.

I doubt I would've made it past my guilt of bringing my young family on board a ship that fought aliens on a weekly basis to worry about anyone else.

Had they recently used the transporter though, I might have asked brillo-hair to shit me out a copy of them that was stored in the computer.

Considering we burned Japan's civilian population until they surrendered when we nuked two cities I would say we got them on the front end.

Sisko was pissed with Picard for killing his wife but Sisko didn't do anything to get revenge when they met at DS9.

Well, to begin, the Cardassians have a better chance farting in a Galaxy class's general direction than burning a hole in the shields with their puny assed spiral disruptors.

As to the vengeance against Cardassians, that was covered pretty well in the DS9 episode where O'Brien was forced to deal with his Cardassian War demons.

Vengeance was taken by that one doctor against the crystal entity that destroyed her planet, so it does happen.

(When you have over 600 episodes total, you can cover a LOT of ground)
