No downside to gun registration right? Police would never do this sort of thing here - right?
http://www.newsmax.com/JohnLott/CanadianPolice-GunOwner-registeredguns/2011/04/15/id/393024 Canadian Police Demonize Gun Owner Friday, 15 Apr 2011 02:28 PM By John Lott Share: Ontario police recently shut down a portion of a major highway for an entire night because of a minor police call involving someone who owned registered guns, according to the Toronto Sun. The big offense turned out to be that trigger locks weren't properly attached to his registered guns, even though there were no kids in his home and the guns were stored in a "closet" (actually I am told in a gun case). Is this really serious? The highway was reopened early Monday morning after the man, who claims he had no idea of what was going on, surrendered to police and was taken into custody. “They threw a flash grenade through my window,” said the battered and bruised man, who left the courtroom after being released on $4,000 bail. “They handcuffed me and dragged me out on my face,” he added. Outside of the court he hugged his family members, who reportedly shook their heads and wept. “We’re confused,” one family member said. Read more on Newsmax.com: Canadian Police Demonize Gun Owner |

now the rest of the story, that some seem to leave out
BARRIE - What started as a simple squabble between two grown men turned into a major calamity Sunday when the OPP and the tactical team shut down a section of Hwy. 11 for the entire night. Police responded to a 911 call after a man reported he had been assaulted by his roommate, Ron Woods, who is also the owner of the home on Hwy. 11 just north of Barrie. The red flags went up when police learned Woods owned firearms. http://www.torontosun.com/news/torontoandgta/2011/04/11/17953511.html |

Bear hunting just west of Sudbury, Ontario. I'd shot my bear and gotten back to camp before the rest of the hunters. Guides didn't want to go back because it'd be dark and there might be other bears around (it was too big for me to drag and the area was fairly boggy). No weapons allowed after dark other than clubs, knives and baseball bats I guess.
The other hunter's at the lodge were all caught in an Ontario DNR roadblock/check. The purpose which was to make sure all the guns were unloaded and had their trigger locks in place. They set up about a mile from the camp, which was on a dirt road easily ten miles from the nearest small town before Sudbury. Be very careful about your firearms if you go to Canada, know what they require and don't really trust the guides to always know or want to obey the laws on hunting or your guns (another story altogether). Their ruling leftist's don't like firearms. I'm surprised they still allow hunting. They will also set up roadblocks around exit roads from the country to search your car and trailer on the days hunter's leave to come back to the U.S. Never lose your import papers on your gun. I didn't, but I also don't want to know what happens. I assume it's to keep the backup on the bridges (Sault Ste. Marie in my case) from being even worse than they were already at the time. |

I'm never making fun of another country's anti-gun actions after reading up on the practices ATF engaged in with Project Gunner and Fast and Furious.
Plus the fact that that agency and Administration officials tried to blame us and our FFL's for illegal gun sales to criminals. Plus the fact that we have Mayors like Bloomberg who conduct sting operations in States thousands of miles away with the sole purpose of prohibiting the private ownership of firearms. Plus the fact................well...........I could go on and on and on for so long that it would exceed the bandwidth this site is allowed. I'd be a total hypocrite if I made fun of another country's anti-gun actions. |

Quoted: Or just stay the fuck out of Canada. Living in Alaska it's tough for me to agree, but I do. Customs has become closer and closer to the TSA. My last trip through they asked "Where are your guns today, Mr jimhoff?" Their computer must have tipped them off from when I declared a legal shotgun years earlier. Don't plan a trip through Canada if you have any kind of criminal record in the USA––even misdemeanor, even a DUI at anytime in the past without obtaining a Deemed Rehabilitated certificate for $200 and a lengthly application period. Plus a health certificate for your dogs. Customs on the US side...not as bad, although they made me finish and swallow my hamburger before proceeding because of a mad cow thing. I finished it in one bite before he handed my license back I will have to go through again but I don't look forward to it. I'll stick with the TSA ass-raping and fly. |
