I'm gonna go see it tomorrow. I wasn't to impressed with episode 1. From what I hear I'm looking forward to the Natelie Portman white dress (mmmm Perky nipples[:P]) and Yodas fighting scene. I'm curious, we have two theaters in my area. One charges $4.00 and the other charges $4.75 to see new movies before 6pm.$6.00 after 6pm. What do you guys have to pay at your theaters?
|
|
5.50 for the early shows. Not sure how much for after 6pm. Probably 8.00

Anyone else think that light sabres ought to be equipped with a lanyard? And that maybe the Jedis should carry a spare in an ankle holster or something?
I have seen it twice and thought it was good. The "I am haunted by the kiss ..." and "I have been dying a little each day ..." BS I could live without though. |
|
I just took my kids to see the movie this evening and I have to say that I thought it was pretty good, even with the romance in it.
I am glad they answered how the Storm Troopers came to be, the next one should be just as good. |
|
Well, at least we finally understand why Luke was too short to be a stormtrooper...:-)

Great Flick, and I totally agree with Sinistral and GarryOwen on the open carry issue and thats coming from an LEO from NY!

Hey Waverunner! Is that a Jeep Cherokee? I can't really tell with that small pic. It looks really cool in those NYPD colors.

I saw Star Wars today. Was way better than the last one. And Natelie Portman Damn! Talk about absolute hotness[shock][:P]. Oh ya Yoda kicked ass too[:)]

Natelie Portman white dress, yes yummy... |

jar jar is partly responsible for the formation of the empire

yeah, Lucas totally blew the romance lines. What's with the cheesy lines?
I distinctly remember being totally into the film until Portman started spouting sh*t. With lines like "I've been dying a little everyday" and "I truly, deeply love you" in sci fi, who need soap operas? That was such bad writing even my 8th grade English teacher would've balked at it. BTW, when was there nipplage? I wasn't aware of any such exposure. Perhaps someone here would point it out to me so I would take notice the next time I go see it. |
|
Good: Yoda thru the whole movie (especially the Light Saber fight)
Bad: Over use of lines from the first movies. "Target the nearest star destroyer!" Good: Natalie Portman. Yummmmm. Bad: Why must EVERY character be at the center of the stories in the prequels? Fett, R2 and C3-PO story lines are too ridiculous to believe. The Boba character was much cooler when we thought he was just a renegade bounty hunter. Now he's a kid with a grudge. Good: Big fight at the end Bad: The "car" chase at the start. Very ridiculous and loooonnnngggg. Good: Intro of key characters. Bail Organa, Owen and Beru (why don't they remember the droids?) Bad: Jar Jar is in it Good: Jar Jar presents the plan to allow the formation of the "Grand Army of the Republic". |
|
The worst line in the movie was when Anakin says that he hates sand, how it is course and gets everywhere, "but everything is smooth when your with me" (something like that)....as he caresses Padmé Amidala's back.
I use to throw out some CHEESY lines, and they would work cause the girl would think it was cute, but man Anakin went beyond cheesy to "sappy hopeless romantic". |
|
Quoted: I'm just glad Jar Jar didn't have much of a role! I was disappointed with Return of the Jedi with all those damn Ewoks and really disappointed with Phantom Menace's Jar Jar. Lucas has redeemed himself! What I didn't like was the few references to how great democracy is, but that a totally different subject! View Quote I thought it was funny when Obi Wan was like "she is a politician and not to be trusted." |

***Warning - Contains Spoilers***
I liked it. The acting and the screenplay were weak, but there was enough "cool stuff" to keep things interesting. High points: 1) The clone factory - very well done. 2) The arena monsters - also very well done. 3) The Jedi mind trick with the guy selling "death sticks". Flaws: 1) Why send an apprentice Jedi on a solo mission, especially when he's a horny, undisciplined teenager guarding the woman he's had a crush on for the past ten years? One of the other Jedi could have tracked the assassin while Obi Wan went with Anakin. 2) What was Jimmy Smits doing in that movie? 3) Too much C3PO. 4) As in Episode I, the most interesting villain (Jango Fett) was killed off. 5) Why did Count Dooku reveal the Sith influence over the Senate? 6) No good chemistry between the main characters. 7) Yoda didn't really kick butt; the bad guy got away. Plus he looked constipated when he was using the Force. BTW, I hope that Lucas changes his mind and makes episodes VII, VIII and IX. I'm very curious about what would happen after the fall of the Empire. |

|
Quoted: Saw it today. Yoda. Sweet. I would have liked him to use the force and push 100's of the droids at a time. Question. Since R2D2 and C3PO were at the moisture farm in Episode II, why don't they remember being there before in episode IV? Also, I'm confused. Wasn't the Fett guy helping the large people make clones? Then all of a sudden he is over being nice with the droid army? And, it appears the clone army becomes the Empire army? Confused. [:D] View Quote I must admit, I enjoyed it more than I thought it would. Jango Fett was an opportunist, working both sides of the street. I think I liked the deeper significance, which was, IMO, the same guy (Senator Palapine/Darth Sinister(?)) who created the problem and the solution in order to sieze power. It was very "Reichstag Fire"-like. He creates the insurrection by puppeting the regegade Jedi into attacking the empire while secretly creating a clone army to defend it. All the while "regrettfully" accepting emergency power. I loved the political aspect of it just as much as the action scenes. ...okay, maybe not as much as Portman's nipples. MIerinMD |
|
Quoted: I really liked the movie, and thought Yoda ROCKED! and I especially like Natalie Portman's nipples in the white top (no bra, thank the force!) during the battle portion at. View Quote That was a great scene! Notice how all of a sudden, when that beast slashed her, that her shirt became almost a perfect cut-off???? AWESOME ABS. |

Jango Fett was working both sides because he was working directly for Count Dooku (Lord Tyrannus {sp}, he says a Tyrannus hired him when talking to Obi-Wan, Sidious later calls Dooku that...) Dooku was in turn working for Sidious to setup the little war that Sidious used to get Emergency Powers (which he'll never give up) and get his military creation stuff through the Senate. He would have never gotten it otherwise. The setup on the Separatists/Trade Federation (who he manipulated in the first one to move from Senator to Chancellor) also eliminated most of the groups who could threaten him later on. If you're aware of the little details under the surface of both this and Episode I it really makes them better movies. I think alot of casual movie goers are totally oblivious to these details. Lucas doesn't seem to want to emphasize these things for some reason. I guess because he's really planning for everything to get spelled out in Episode III. Should really tie everything together and make both Eps I and II seem much better... I really liked these political manuevering main plots of the last couple movies.
This whole rise to power story is very similar to how Hitler legitimately got control. Set up an "emergency" with your own people and blame it on your enemy, rise to power and crush everyone... Oh yeah, I really thought this movie was great. I still can't believe I have to wait 3 FREAKIN' YEARS to see the next one though. That's just wrong... |
|
Saw it, liked it. will go see it again, probably tomorrow.
But I got lost when the clone army was discovered... I couldn't tell if they we're going to be protagonist or antagonist. |
|
Wasn't there a female Yoda-type Jedi in Episode I? What happened to her?
I wish that Lucas would have let the other Jedi play more of a role instead of having Yoda and Mace Windu do 90+% of the talking. |

I know this really doesn't have much to do with this topic but I didn't see the need in creating a new thread for these...thought these were funny.

Here's what I didn't like about the analysis:
The Republic wasn't working. View Quote Perhaps not, but why? Too much corruption or too much freedom? I vote for too much corruption, and corrupt republics don't last very long. It can't be argued that a burdensome bereaucracy is part of a capitalist system. Capitalism thrives IN SPITE of bereaucracy, not because of it. The Empire wasn't particularly evil. View Quote And I have a speeder for sale cheap! The empire wasn't evil because it was trying to avoid a civil war. The Empire was evil because it created the conditions for secession. When the secession took place, a dictator siezed power to continue those conditions. When the republic collapsed the TRUE power behind the empire was revealed. This man used fear and power to get his way, and just like any dictator, give him what he wants, and he will basically leave you alone. Does the author prefer to live under these conditions? Would the author prefer "safety" and "order" at the price of 'white booted thugs' knocking down your home (U. Owen), your business (L. Calrissian), or your planet (P. Leia)? All this simply because you got in the way? And the Rebellion didn't offer a good alternative. View Quote Well, you have to win the war before you can set up a government. What were George Washingtons alternatives? Too bad the author leaves out all the 'Expanded Universe'. That is where the Rebels set about creating a new government. A little dis-ingenuous to ignore this, don't you think? I suppose the flaw in that theory is that the Emperor was mad with power and he would have blown up more planets with the Death Star if he'd had the opportunity. View Quote Of course he would have, as well as enslaving the better part of the galaxy. Besides he tried to wipe out the Jedi (genocide anyone?) Those things aren't the only problems with his theory. That guy sounds like an idiot. Organized distatorship is better than disorganized freedom? Give me a break! |
|
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Republic wasn't working. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Perhaps not, but why? Too much corruption or too much freedom? View Quote That's a good question which Lucas never really addresses. The characters mention corruption, but there isn't much evidence of it (aside from Palpatine being in cahoots with the Trade Federation in Episode I). The structural problem, I think, is that there are too many diverse interests (hundreds of different worlds) trying to agree on too wide a range of issues. By not staying focused, the Republic fails to accomplish much. |
|
For me, the best moment was right when Jar Jar sets in motion the events that will bring about the fall of the Old Republic. When it dawns on the audience what he's done, Jar Jar beans this big shit-eating grin.
The coolest part was when Obi Wan visits that water planet. The tall thin people were great--almost...sensual...in a way. The big land battle in the end was worth the price of admission. |
|
No matter on what you guys think about the movie, we all can agree Natalie Portman was super hot, can't we? I look forward to seeing her in the next installment and hope she makes it big in the next movies shes in[:D][:P]
|
|
I'll buy that.
It seems however that a free Republic ought not need any central direction given. I think that the problem of 'lack of direction', is actually too much bureauocracy. Take the example of the blockade of Naboo. The senate moved to intervene, however the Trade Federation proposed an investigation. Apparently all that was needed to make this a reality, was a second from Malestair. Why couldn't this have gone to a full vote? We are not sure, but apparently Valorum's advisors were corrupt, and the Cupreme Chancellor was either weak, or was bogged down by weighty administrative procedures. Either way, the situation was ripe for corruption. That is where buereauocracy always leads. Our nation is a good example of that. Anyhow, this is an interesting conversation. I still think that that author is a boob and a tool. |

Yoda did kick ass in a major way.
My buddies and I were the only ones in the movie apparently who got the references to the "grand army of the republic", "emergency powers", and "executive orders". We would howl every time they were said, and the people around us kept asking what we were laughing at. Jar Jar, he really needed to die. Painfully. That alone would have made the movie for me. Also the fact that he is a pudding headed useful idiot straight out of Megalomaniacal Dictator's Power Grabbing Strategies for Dummies was enough to justify the opinion that he should be eliminated. Hopefully a final vengeful Jedi will nail that annoying SOB. Lucas apparently watched a few Viet Nam pictures before filming the final battle sequence. All it needed was a storm trooper with headphones rocking out and the Ride of the Valkyries blaring as background music. Gladly the armed droids wre less of a pushover this film. The last time they seemed to be made of paper mache and saran wrap and were just as combat effective. Too bad the Tuscan raider camp fight wasn't shown. It would have been interesting to see Anny go berserk. Am I the only one who felt that Blade Runner was a significant influence on the design of Coruscant? Also, does anyone know if the three gravestones at the Lars compound are there in the original Star Wars? I don't remember them. Why don't folks remember the droids? Would you remember your plain Jane Toyota specifically if you saw it 5 years after you had sold it? I will probably see this multiple times. Because I am a loser and a nerd. But I will be a happy loser nerd. Can't wait for number 3. |
