If you need a boost to hit weight, here's what you do for five or six days: 3-5 protein drinks a day. I like Body Fortress whey isolate from WalMart. It's very low carb. Three teaspoons of psyllium husk a day Gallon of water 5 fish oil tablets That all you get to eat for the day for 5-6 days. Try to walk a mile or two a day. You'll be tired, you'll be weak, you'll feel like hell, but you'll make weight. I did this one time and I dropped 20 lbs. It was glycogen, water, and GI emptying. Very little of it is permanent. Show up 10 lbs under your max and that might show that you're serious.

| I thought I had passed the rope and choke initially, but now there's some discrepancy about it. If I had known status quo would have caused me to fail, I would have taken more extreme methods such as starving myself and dehydrating myself prior to the weigh in. I thought I'd be fine because it seemed like my pants were fitting better. |

You've had multiple warnings/poor reviews and failed to take any of them seriously. |

I'm really at a loss right now. I am supposed to graduate in December of this year and become a commissioned officer in the US Navy. However, it looks like that may not happen. I'm about to go though a Probational Review Board for failing height and weight standards. I'm 66" tall and weighed in at 173 lbs. The max weight for my height is 170 lbs. I failed the rope and choke. Facts: - I weighed in at 172 lbs in January. - I was told that I passed height and weight standards through the rope and choke. - I scored a 230 on the inventory PFA in January. (This is not a great score by any means but exceeds the minimums) - I failed the previous official PFA. I was sick and decided to run it anyway. It was a terrible decision to try to prove myself. After that height and weight in January, I decided that I needed to work out more, and I did. I put in about an extra 3-4 miles a week in addition to Battalion PT. While doing this, I sprained my knee and lately have had to tone it down at Battalion PT. I did not make it known to many that I was having problems with my knee. I wear a knee brace now and have been hoping that I'm not seen as a slacker. I also started changing my diet. While I'm not a calorie counter, I started eating fewer fatty foods. Further down the line, I began reducing the amount of food I ate. What I don't understand is how doing the right things has led me to this situation. I work out more and eat better, but somehow am in a worse position. According to one of the LTs, I failed height and weight standards in January as well. This is contradictory to what the LT who measured me said. My biggest concern is that this will be my second Probational Review Board. I had one two years ago for poor grades. The XO made it clear to me that he was serious about me not screwing up any more. He specifically said, "If I ever see you in here again, you're done." I turned that around real quick, going from a 2.4 GPA semester to a 3.7 GPA in the next semester. What can I do to save myself from losing everything that I have? I'm not allowed a re-weigh, and this will count for two consecutive PFA failures, no matter what my score is on the PFA. How do I convince my CO and XO to give me another chance? I've made it so far only to get screwed at the end. It's 3 pounds!!!!! Sounds like you knew what you needed to do but you chose not to do it. Sorry man, that sucks, but the military does not exist to serve you. If you cannot meet the bare minimum standards, you have NO business leading Marines, Sailors, and Soldiers in Combat. Leaders do not make excuses. Find a different career, or enlist to pay back your debt to the Navy. |

It sounds like you have a bit more going on academically, but this is the solution to your PT issue. |

Quoted: Yup. I have seen this before. Three lbs is nothing to loose. I could drop that in the toilet in one good sitting. Quoted: What can I do to save myself from losing everything that I have? Its sounds like you need to spend less time on Arfcom and more time doing PT Or subconsciously you really don't want to do this and this is your way out |

Low fat foods have 2 to 3 times the amount of sugar in them. Sugar gets metabolized and the excess stored as FAT.
Low fat diets are a scam. You want to loose the weight? Try low carb instead. You'll burn off the weight in no time. 2 weeks of less than 20 carbs per day (lots of meats, cheese, fish, shrimp, salad, veggies etc...) you will burn off 10 to 14 pounds. |
|
I would suggest you stop making excuses, conduct your MDMP, examine your three courses of action and execute a good plan now. The Military is not for everyone, if you can not meet the standards, then you need to go elsewhere.
I don't say this to be harsh or cruel, but you know the expected standards. Act like a warrior, or quit. MSG R 18Z50 Nous Defions |

That sucks ass man. In my old unit they're cracking down hard as well. God help you if you're an inch too short or a few pounds over, but if you beat your wife or got a DUI you're GTG. ![]() Perhaps on your side this is true, but on this side of the fence, any alcohol related event is the end of your career, and as for DV....kiss that Tab good bye! |

Harsh advice, but it's true. It's gut check time. I would suggest dropping the weight ASAP even if there's not a reweigh. Aim for a little breathing room like 165. Then, even if you do go to the board, you can say that you dropped the weight plus a few and have kept it off for X amount of time. DO NOT GO TO THE REVIEW BOARD OVERWEIGHT. Good luck. |
|
I wish I could change the past but it's too late for that now. I realize I've screwed up.
I'm just looking for the best way to fix my problem now. Some are you guys are right. I DO need to look at myself and take my shit seriously. I'm pissed at myself, don't get me wrong. It's MY fault. I'm just in a bad situation and don't have too many options. I'm not allowed to re-weigh. So losing the weight won't directly help at the moment. |

since you can't do the test again I would recommend you go full on rocky balboa training style until your review. Try to make youself look as good as possible then hope they see it and realize you are just a big guy.If you have a gut now is the time to start doing 500 sit ups per night, morning, day , and evening. All you can do is look good in front of them so they question the results of your failed test |

Yeah thats how it should be, but I guess every unit has a fucked up point in time I suppose. I think it goes something along the lines of "If we give them Ranger school or promote them, they won't have time to get into more trouble" which boggled my mind. |

Quoted: Respectfully, you are not officer material. Your mind set is clearly not suitable to lead warriors. Even blue water warriors. Find some other area where you can be a productive citizen. Leading warriors isn't it. And having read a few more of the OP's responses I would agree with this. If three lbs is between him and being an officer and he just doesn't know what to do... what the fuck is going to happen if something important needs to be done and lives are in danger. ETA: I have dropped 6 lbs at least in a day hike in the Corps. I could easily do 3 bls with a quick 5 mile ruck run. And that is being in WAY better shape then the OP which typically means less to drop.

| I think if it was my career on the line I'd make damn sure I came in well within the standards. I'm not a bed-wetting liberal who's going to say it's not your fault; it is. In my opinion you screwed up big time and now need to face the music. Perhaps in the future you'll take something like this more seriously. |

How do I convince my CO and XO to give me another chance? I've made it so far only to get screwed at the end. It's 3 pounds!
I can't give any guidance on dealing with the CO/XO but there's something about your post that's rubbing me wrong. You were within 2 lbs of making the height/weight measurements and got taped, you should be aware of how serious the USN takes PRT failures and you were riding the pass/fail line way too close, you should have been more concerned about this and you should have requested to have your PRT Coordinator do several "Courtesy Measurements" in the months prior to the Jan PRT to make sure you were getting within standards. You already had a prior PRT failure, this first failure should have had you concerned enough to get your shit squared away and ensure you weren't going to "squeak by" on the next PRT. Instead your score "exceeds the minimums" (and you failed on body fat). You have already been through a Probational Review Board in the past, this should have clued you in that you were now in the spot light and you should have figured out that you need to excel in all areas for the rest of your time in the program. Look at this one again: I've made it so far only to get screwed at the end. It's 3 pounds!
Your attitude is all wrong, you're not "Getting screwed!" it looks like you screwed yourself. ETA: As a short, stocky guy (5"7" 170-175lbs) I had to pay attention prior to every PRT to make sure I made scale, I too "Taped Badly" but I made damn sure I made scale every time. |

Be more concerned how you ran up $150,000 going to 4 years of college. Out of state tuition plus loans for housing and car. Do I look like a complete fatass? This picture was taken last summer. http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h264/XeComChayNhanh/39893_1185702892913_1538490807_30790078_3918242_n.jpg?t=1302374161 And this was taken about a month ago. If you fail a H/W test that you know you need to pass and you have had ample time to prepare for you obviously don't want it enough. Maybe this will be a good thing for you and your future soldiers. I thought I passed as I always had before. Now I'm getting different answers. |

for short term, it is entirely possible to loose 15 lbs in 2 weeks and still function. It is not pleasant, but very doable. I did it once and managed to keep the weight off a couple months. Long term, get ride of all the carbs and sugar from your diet, and you could easily get down to the 140's if you wanted to. I managed to loose 45 lbs that way and kept that off for several years. It takes a lot longer to loose the second 25 than the first 20. |
