Of my quest to stop drinking soda and eating candy bars.
I was really good about this about two years ago...then after giving into some cravings, I went back to my 20oz Coke and one or two Milky Way bar addiction per day. I put on over 20lbs in the past year (I'm at 175 now), and am finally serious about getting down to the 140-150 range where I felt really good. Before you crank about the weight...I'm ~5'8" and a runner. Excess flab does me no good. My pace went from ~7min/mile to ~9:30min/mile, and I really feel the effects of running in my knees. Not to mention the sugar comas...and lethargy associated with caffeine and sugar. Combine with less exercise...weight adds up. Yesterday, being the first day was OK. I got a headache late in the afternoon, which was expected. Day two...is today. I set my first day of giving up these sweets exactly one month before the Indianapolis Mini-marathon. It will be my fourth running of the event. Sadly, I expect it to be my worst time ever recorded in a 1/2 marathon...in the 1:5x:xx range. My PR was 1:34:48, and I'd like to beat that this fall / winter. Wish me luck on the anti-sugar quest! |
