Call The Police, Man With A Sword...OMG !!!!!!!
One of the many reasons I just love Southwest Ohio.

Really?

BEAVERCREEK, Ohio –– An adult and juvenile male are facing charges of disorderly conduct after walking around the Mall at Fairfield Commons while displaying replica swords.

At about 1:40 p.m., witnesses saw two men who were carrying what appeared to be samurai swords under their trench coats in the mall, Beavercreek police said. Witnesses said the pair was displaying the swords and pulled them out of their coats at one point.

The Beavercreek Police Department was notified by concerned on-lookers.

"When something like this happens in a mall, people don't know what to think," Sgt. George Combs of the Beavercreek Police Department said. "They err on the side of caution and notify police."

An officer in the area saw them leaving the mall and stopped them in the parking lot of a nearby shopping center.

All five occupants of the car were cooperative and complied with police requests during the stop. An investigation revealed that two spotted carrying swords purchased them from Nirvana, a store in the mall, that day.

A 19-year-old from Florida and a 16-year-old form Dayton will face charges in court.

When I was a teenager, a loose acquaintance of mine was known to carry a katana under his trenchcoat. Odd duck...seen one too many Highlander flicks/TV shows.

Inevitably, he defended himself with the sword one evening in the parking lot of a popular pizza joint. Cut the assailants up pretty bad. Said acquaintance was promptly given a three day psych hold, never to be heard from again.

CSB.

Why would they face charges for walking around the mall with items they purchased from a store in the mall?

Retarded.

+1,000,000

I get why someone called the police and I could understand charges if the kids had caused any sort of trouble but sending two fantasy sword geeks to court for possessing something they legally purchased in that same mall just make no sense whatsoever.

Shit like this drives me crazy!

Why in hell can't cops ever say "Sir or Ma'm, he/they are not doing anything illegal and I am reporting this complaint as unfounded."

The unspoken comment is obviously "Police don't have time to waste on shit like this. Get a life."

it's illegal to carry a sword in public in TX, period––it counts as an "illegal knife".  the only exceptions are during or in transit to/from a re-enactment, artistic performance, or sporting event that involves the sword.

vague and annoying.

Unsheathing it was probably the issue here,

kinda like the difference between open carrying and drawing a gun in public.

Same thing as open carry. It might be legal, but you also might have someone call the cops on you. I wouldn't carry one around a mall. You used to be able to buy them in malls though, so I guess that is all in the details.

The Stupid Just does not stop.  I wonder if putting the purchase in a sack qualifies as concealed and do "replica" swords qualify as real swords the eyes of the law?  They need to sue the hell out of the mall security.

RIF - There is a big difference between putting it in a sack and leaving the mall and putting it under your trench coat and then pulling it out and showing it off around the mall.

There's a big reason why I don't go to malls much any more and it is retards like that.  They usually either want to hurt themselves or someone else.

Talk about bringing mall ninja to a new level, haha. Stupid kids they should have played with the swords at home and not in the mall.

being somewhat untrained with a sword, i would prefer an axe for an edged weapon, prolly a fireaxe, the pointing end being good for ripping at femoral arteries..

now.. if i was to go into sears in a mall, and purchase said axe, and then traverse across the mall to say.. meet my wife at the food court and on the way some vigilant citizen was to observe me toting an axe through a children infested mall, would i then be subject to a visit to the county jail?

Only if you tried to hide it under your trench coat and looked like Marilyn Manson...

I imagine you WOULD get some odd looks since Sears is a hike from the food court...  Personally, I'd go to Dick's and borrow a 9 Iron or three as counter defense.

We don't get much of a second look from the various folks playing basketball at the rec center when we show up with blunt steel longswords for class (and free sparring) round here.  Course, it IS a scheduled class...
