I have a 91 camaro, I was wondering if it is necessary to leave the torque arm on or can I leave it off. Thanks

Unless you like replacing transmission tailshaft / output shaft housings, Id leave it.

My old 3rd gen broke loose and scrapped the tailshaft housing.

I sold it, and didnt deal with the problem.

If you don't want your whole axle to twist itself into a pretzel leave it on.

You'll twist the frame without it, especially if it's a 305, those are some powerful ass motors.

Definetly need it,  I replaced the trans in my 94' Z28 2 years ago, thought I'd do a test run with out it. Driveshaft rubbed inside the center hump as the rear end squatted, installed torque arm, all was good.

Why in the world would you want to leave it off?

I dunno, my dad said in his older camaros, he didn't have those on, so he was a bit confused, and I asked here on arfcom because in this forum, any question can be answered :3

In older Camaros, traction bars were sometimes added but not necessary on a street car.

3rd & 4th generation Camaros have a totally different rear suspension - a torque arm is necessary if you want to keep the rear end where it belongs.

Do you want to keep it off because you can't get it back on?

There is a trick to it.  With the car lifted, you have to place a jack on the tail end of the differential, so it'll tilt the front of the differential down.  Then the torque arm will slip right on and you won't bugger up the bushings.
