My PC has a Gigabyte GS-P35-DS3L rev 1.0 motherboard.  I upgraded the BIOS from F5 to F9 and now the CPU fan is roaring away at ~2600 RPM.  I've tried disabling and re-enabling the "smart fan" setting, then reloading defaults.  No change.  Any ideas?

is there anything in the bios release notes about changes to the fan system? You could also try reflashing the bios to an earlier release. other than that I'm not sure
