During spring break, I took a couple flights on a charter plane. It was a 737. I arrived at the airport on a bus. It drove to the tarmac. I got off the bus, and stood in line for ten minutes. I got "wanded" for 10 seconds and got on the plane. I know the TSA is utter bullshit, but it seems really stupid to put normal airline passengers through 5 hours of hell and put charter plane passengers through 10 minutes of non-intrusive wanding. Also, luggage went straight on the plan without being scanned at all. I'm sure there is nothing stopping "radical" organizations from renting charter planes. Seems kind of dumb to me.  |

As a guy who's worked at a FBO,
It is really expensive to operate one of those big suckers, the gas and mx cost is huge, not to mention insurance and such Those who can typically afford such things, dont want to be hassled, those that would hassle them wont get their money... |

The security that you experienced on the charter flight was strictly optional and at the discretion of the charter operator. TSA screening is not required at all outside of public carriers, on private flights it is not required in any way.
Once again, you have options, don't want TSA, don't fly on cattle cars, don't want to pay thousands of dollars for a seat on a two hour flight, take a public carrier that is required to allow anybody who wants to fly for any reason on, and deal with the security. |

For five years, I drove a few celebrities and a real estate developer. At least three times a month, I was on a private plane to and from NY and CA. Not once did we ever go through security. I would drive right onto the tarmac, behind the planes and right on to the plane. It was great, but ridiculous at the same time. Regular folk have to be violated to get on commercial airlines.

| Honestly, charter planes are more secure. There are a number of reasons. The customers are known better, the expense involved is huge, and they are lesser targets for terror value. Sure hitting one would be pretty extreme terrorism, but part of terrorism is the "I could be next!" factor. That is significantly reduced with charters. |
