| Me and a buddy of mine are going to start clearing some land to build us a rifle/pistol range. My question is steel targets a good idea? Can i just get any ol peice of steel? Satrting construction monday after work will post pics. Thanks for replys |

You know, I think someone may have posted a good write up on that, but damned if I can remember who....
ETA: At least he thought it was a good write up, but the guy is kind of a jackass so who knows.

No prob;em with richochet? probaly a dumb question just want to be safe. As long as you shoot the plates nearly perpendicular the most you have to worry about is back splash. The copper jackets pop off and come flying back at you. For the most part its not a problem though but it can happen so always always wear eye protection when shooting steel. Also with rifle you will probably want AR500 steel and I wouldnt recommend shooting 556 inside 50 to 75 yards due to the risk of the copper jacket coming back. I've shot steel at around 15 yards with the AR and I did take a jacket in the stomach and holy Christ it hurt.... |

How exactly is the bullet sent back to the shooter? is it when the steel is almost penetrated enough to where it forms rifling in the indent therefore sending the bullet back at the shooter? |
