A quick casual glance in a dark room, sure.

Actually looking at it to see if anything valuable is in it?  Nope.

Ehhh......take some of that cash you've got saved up and buy a safe. It's one of the best investments you can make, and one of the first I'd make if I had a new house:

-Safe
-Generator
-$100 in bottled water
-$500 in dried foods (wheat, beans, peas, corn, rice)
-Deep Freezer for meat/fresh veggie storage.

For around $3k, you can be better prepared for disaster than 98% of your neighbors ever dreamed of being.

Truly Fudd-arific.

I won't keep my fine walunut and blued steel, capacity limited, sporting purpose, pieces of craftmanship in no dang metal safe.  The metal safes are for dangerous assault weapons.

My personal experience with home invasions is that if it can be tipped or knocked over, it will be.  Everything gets tossed.

I'm not buying one of these things and the only things I don't have on your list is the genny and a decent safe.  I just found this while safe shopping.

One of those mount between the studs safes seem like it would hold almost as much and be easier to hide.

While it likely would fool them, how many would you need to store everything?

Having 10 or 12 in one room might raise some suspicion.

Bought my dad one of those last year. Loud, but for under $300, it's light-years better than not having one.

I don't even remember what brand my safe is...I'd have to go look at the door. But regardless of brand, remember two things: if it ain't properly bolted to the floor, it's uselsss, and get one twice as big as you think you need.

At that price I would just buy a safe.

A cardboard fake Christmas tree box is practically free, and WILL fool them. Who the fuck looks in a fake christmas tree box? No thief wants christmas decorations.

How did I learn this trick? I got my apartment tossed and guess what didn't get touched? A fake Christmas tree box filled with guns.

Hide in plain sight. It's a good concept. Those safes ( I have one) are just a beakon as to where all the good stuff is. If they have the time, it's gone. It's a good idea to keep a few here and a few there so if the worse happens, you're not totally wiped out.
