Sittin' in Ali,
Waitin on a visa so I can GTFHOME!!!
18 months in sunny dusty rockety Basra are done, and the big question is where to point the boat. She's been out of the water for too damn long and it's high time to head out for some real fun. Reccomendations other than the east coast of Africa (or the mid east in general) eagerly accepted. |

Ain't no way in heck I'm letting the skinnies get a chance to put holes in my boat. If I wind up going around, the closest I'm coming to that neighborhood will be Cape Town. I've never understood folks with seaworthy sailboats risking the short cut just to get to the med. Not worth it. Especially since the aussies'd take my cannon if I brought it with me. I'm thinking of heading north from the Chesapeake for the summer and snowbirding into the islands after the 'caine season. Should be fun! Need to know the good places for enjoying nature (no tourism). Any help? |

Quoted: Quoted: You know, the girls from NZ are bad either...You seem stuck on Australia for some reason. Spent too much time drooling over the ladys of the Aussie Army the first time I came here. Obligatory Boat pics: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v299/halromberg/DSC_1249.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v299/halromberg/IMGP0176.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v299/halromberg/IMGP0181.jpg And why, pray tell, would a sailor ever want to go to Nebraska or Kansas? South America sounds like a hell of a lot of fun. SouthPac would kick ass but I need to find a job I can work from the middle of the ocean to do that for any length of time. Googling jobs in Pago Pago....Vanuatu......Tonga...... ![]() That is soooo cool. If I owned something like that and had a wad of cash in my pocket, I'd tool around the Caribbean for awhile in a search for the perfect margarita. You've earned it man, enjoy. |

North from the Chesapeake:
1) Try the east coast all the way up to Acadia National Park. Plenty of coves to anchor in Maine and the Bar Harbor area is nice. There are plenty of "carriage trails" covering Mount Desert island that you can enjoy a nice hike or bike ride on. Along the way is Newport, Mystic Village and Boston too. Plenty to see and do. 2) Sail up the Hudson river to Albany. The Hudson River Valley is downright gorgeous. The river is tidal all the way to Albany. You boat would have not troubles navigating it. |

I did the reverse of trip 1 on my first yacht delivery. Southwest Harbor is SWEET. This is gonna be fun.
And a plus is that if you get 12 miles out the world is your rifle range. |

Hey man, I was sitting at Ali yesterday morning myself and read this post on my phone about eight minutes after you submitted it. Unfortunately I couldn't reply for some reason. I was in the USO at the time and walked around looking at guys' laptops to see if anyone was browsing ARFCOM at the time. We probably walked right past each other at some point. I'm back in Iraq myself now though. Glad you made it home, man. |

I think I posted it from the Internet Cafe. Wish we'd run into each other. Would've been cool. I'm actually down in Kuwait City now. Had to run over to AJ and debrief the big wigs /collect coin and cert/etc. Home on the 15th is the plan and nothing they can offer is gonna change it! Well, pretty much nothin.....and what would make me stay they ain't gonna offer.
