I've ran the numbers on my Ford 460 with a t19 and it makes sense to go for an overdrive unit. I've contemplated the 5spd swap but like the durability of these 4spds. I've been looking around and found gear vendors. They want about $3k for one so realistically I could get one for half price used should I ever be lucky enough to find one. Lastly, I've seen quite a few around from jeeps and the like specifically the warn overdrives. I am curious as to if I could modify one in a way to use it with my t19?

I don't know anything about adding overdrive units, but good luck, buddy. Interesting idea.

Some of the Ford 5 speeds are very durable and would probably cost less than an overdrive unit. If I was you I would look into a 5 speed.

I've found one Its a ranger overdrive unit. Bolts right in on my trans, cost 1/2 the price of the supposed best available unit and cheaper than a nv450 dodge swap. it also is about the same price as a rebuilt zf-5 speed. it allows me splitting of gears and it bolts right on. I'm looking at 1000 dollars for 27% overdrive, $1200 with the driveline mods, I also have the added of having an additional shift lever to mess around with big rig brownie style, until I switch the adapter over to a vaccumn actuated switch.

Biggest question I have is how much power is that 460 making? Gear vendors is expensive because they can handle ridiculous amounts of torque and high horsepower. Im not sure I would apply an overdrive out of a Ranger to a big block. Have you looked at the new TCI 6speed auto trans? Available with a .56 overdrive..... And it includes the tq converter and bell housing adapter for whatever setup you are running.

I know i have found out the hardway about quality parts. 74 Duster with a stroker smallblock went through 6 transmissions and 7 rearends (chrysler 8 3/4, not some junk) in a 3 year period. Better to cough it up in the begining than pay 3 times as much in the long run. Just my opinion
