| So I fully admit I do not have the necessary man skill of making a good pot of coffee. Dunkin Donuts is right down the road from me, and they make the best IMHO. However I was given a nice Cuisine Art Coffee maker for xmas and figured I better use it. Just curious what you guys buy at the store to put in yours.......and what is your ration to water use. |

No. ![]() If you want GOOD coffee, you need to find a local roaster. Pending that, I've been buying the Magnum Exotics brand Kona and Blue Mountain whole bean blends at my local Marshalls... Sumatran and Mocha Java are my beans of choice though... ...try some good beans and you will never want another cup of Dunkin Donuts Speed |

My favorite is a local Boulder roaster, Silver Canyon Coffee. Holy crap it has ruined any other coffee for me. The owner and his son are the only ones that roast and it's just plain perfection. It has the most amazingly rich caramel aftertaste you'd think they were flavoring it. I am a pretty big snob when it comes to coffee. I'd rather drink my own piss than Dunkin Donuts shit water.

Kona coffee is great, so is Cafe du monde. But if you like a jolt then try the Dunkin turbo coffee. If you want a meth high get some Insane coffee- It has like 10X's the amount of caffeine as regular coffee. I made a pot at work one time and my maintenance dept. got more work done in an hour than all week long.. |

speedracer nailed it. Find something roasted fresh. This. Buy tiny quantities (1/4 lb or less) until you find one or more that you like. Talk to them at the roastery and ask about grind and strength. Good coffee beans can be brewed a little stronger than shitty ones and the resulting coffee will simply have a deeper, richer flavor, instead of being crappy tasting. |

Well, I roast for myself at least. You can buy unroasted beans for $5-$6/lb and blow away just about any exotic coffee roasted 6 months ago. http://www.sweetmarias.com |

Roast your own as I do. http://www.burmancoffee.com/
Costa Rican Honey Palomares for the win! It sells out quick, so buy when you see it. Should be back around Apr/May. Don't waste your money on the pricey Blue Mountain or Kona. If you must, then Kona is a better value. Blue Mountain, at $18/lbs is a big let down. Oh, and freshly roasted beans as in just out of the roaster is not the best. The beans need to rest, about 3 to 5 days is the typical peak. These are whole beans not grinds. Never grind until you brew, and only grind what you are brewing right then. |

Best store bought coffee is 8oclock coffee. Yep, I love that stuff and it doesn't break the bank. Buy the whole bean version and grind it yourself, it's great. Another thumbs-up for 8 O'Clock. However, since you like Dunkins coffee, for twice the price of most anything else their blend is available in the local grocery stores and at the DD store. I like some DD coffee from my own pot, on occasion. DanM |

It is a matter of taste. I like the coffees from Trader Joes, if you can find one in your locale.
Starbucks has a some good coffees in unground beans. When you buy it, then they will grind it for you if you wish, or you can grind it yourself. The cost of the good arabrica coffees has been going pretty steadily. If it goes up even, more I am going to stick to the robusta beans, ie Maxwell house, Folger's etc. |

I buy green beans from www.sweetmarias.com and roast them myself. I use either a French Press or an older 30's style Cory vacuum pot. Unless you're roasting for espresso, most beans you'll find are roasted TOO much. This kills the origin flavor of any bean and turns it towards a 'smokyness or burnt flavor, as you might guess. I get green beans from all over the world and some of my favorites are a bean from Papua, New Guinea, beans from Central America, like Costa Rica and El Savador, Rwanda grows a decent bean, as does Ughanda. Ethiopia, Sulawesi, Columbia and Yemen also grow great beans. The key is to not over-roast a bean and kill the flavor. Chris |

Talk about a fresh cup of coffee. |

After a few decades of blending my own combinations....and having gone through dozens of pounds of JBM, Kona, and all the other top shelf beans...at this point, I've learned that much like with a good microbrew beer...there are session drinks...and stuff you sip and enjoy.
For a Sunday morning in front of the fireplace, nothing beats fresh JBM. (not to be confused with JMB) For my usual 'grab and go', on the way to work coffee, plain old columbian beans....mild roast. I use a press....its fast and its right. Drip makers work, but if you want to get all the oils out of the bean, you need really hot water....and in a press you can get that easily. Always grind your beans right before you make your coffee...it only adds maybe 15-20 seconds to the process...and for my tastebuds, its worth the extra effort. |
