It is very unlikely they would have, because they mainly just wanted us gone, and to attack our assets involved in the evac would have brought a retaliatory response.
We still had tactical air assets in Thailand and on carriers offshore that could have put in immediate strikes. Google the "Mayaguez Incident" for more insight. Here |
