After 30 years of smoking I have had enough

pack and 1/2 a day @ 9 bucks = $3285.00 a year.

plus my boy has been after me to quit ( he says I scare away the elk )

as incentive if I make it, I am buying me an OBR in .308

Wish me luck in 8 days I toss the smokes out.

Don't wait 8 more days. Just putting off the unavoidable day. Toss them out tonight. Ask me how I know........6+ years later. They still smell delicious as they are burning. It's a daily struggle still, but I win every day.

Ditch the Chantrix and go buy some Nicorette gum.

Good for you on quitting a nasty fucking habit.

Thanks man

going to try the chantix this time, tried the gum it did not work for me

I am going to stuff a $10 spot in a jar everyday so I can see my savings, I am a visual type of guy. Hopefully the will give me the incentive to carry through

After 3 or 4 days on the Chantix, I found that I would actually forget to smoke, and that I didn't get that 'nicotine kick'. Also, smoking began to taste really, really nasty.

After 30+ years of smoking, it's been over three years since the Chantix. I still get the occasional urge, but it disappears quickly. Also, I had very little in the way of side effects either starting, during or ending the medication.

Good luck.

Edit: Important: enroll in the Chantix on-line support program. It really is helpful.

Let us know if you have any weird dreams.

Man, cigarettes sure have gone up in price since I quit (only 2.5 years ago). I wouldn't be able to afford it now.

If you are dead serious about quitting, then toss the smokes out tomorrow...not in 8 days.

Sorry, but the whole "this is my quit date" thing is BS. More often than not, people come up with an excuse NOT to quit on that date.

Toss 'em and start telling yourself you are a non-smoker.

I quit almost 6 years ago after a 30 year habit. It's not easy, and if you try to make it easy you will fail.

Sorry...but that's a fact.

I'll be happy to help you out with whatever advice I can, but remember this...as long as you commit 100%, you can do it.

The Chantix makes the cigarettes taste like shit, but not shitty enough to make me want to stop.   After the asthma attack when I came to in the hospital with the tube down my throat the patch made a believer out of me.

Good luck. I know a lot of people who swear by Chantix.

Just a word of caution. I tried chantix and it did great killing the urge after a couple of days. 2 weeks in I almost quit my job and could not contain my temper. I have a really easy-going personality normally, but I would have hurt someone if I had kept taking it.

It works at killing the urge.  I had a nasty reaction after being on it for 3 weeks.  I started getting between 1 and 3 full blown (loss of vision, nausea, icepick in the eye, etc.) migraine headaches per day.  I have an occasional  problem with migraines to begin with though.  As soon as I went off of it, they went away.   Just something to be aware of.

Good luck with the quitting.  Best thing you can do for yourself.

I just bought my self an E-cig to back off of smoking and eventually quit.  It may not be the best way to quit but it is a way.  My biggest thing will be breaking the physical habit of smoking.

I started using it 48 hours ago.  In that time frame if i were still smoking the real think i would have smoked at least 2 packs.  I have smoked one real cigarette in 48 hours.  I have never done that in the 8 years i have been smoking.  I WILL be compleatly off of nicotine in 2 weeks.  I will eventually stop using the E-cig.

This is the one i went with if anyone is interested.

Anyone here ever try Zyban?  Seems like it's got fewer (or at least not as severe) side effects.  Anyone try both?

And good luck, OP.

Starting my 2nd week on chantix (Champex in Canada) tomorrow.  I was using a tin a day of Copenhagen.  So far, no wierd dreams, and the only mood changes I have had is a feeling of happieness most of the time.  No problems with temper or aggression.  I quit completely on day 9.  My only advice is to make a workout part of your quit plan.  Im hitting the gym between 3 and 4 times a week and it really helps.

I think that mood shit is really just nicotine withdrawl, people that have kicked heroin say it's not as bad as kicking nicotine.....and if you don't belive that drive by your local NA meeting.........but apperently it can cause severe depression.......

Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are inevitably ruined.

You have my best wishes for your atempt at quitting smoking.
My experience with Chantix was not successful.
It affects people in different ways, not all the same.
I hope it works for you.

Cold turkey for the win! I quit 4 years ago this month, when Texas raised the tax a dollar a pack. 4 other guys at work tried the Chantix; all of them are still smoking. Saving over $3500 a year. That's a couple of nice rifles/handguns, and a lot of ammo.

You need to become a cheapskate:

"$3285/yr for smokes? Fuck that, Id rather spend it on guns and ammo"

We knew you were a raging hardon. Don't try to blame that on Chantix.

Cold turkey, day 29 after a 35 year habit.  The first two weeks was pretty tough but I downed a large glass of water every time I had the urge to light up.  That and thinking about saving $3,200 / yr.

The wife is still smoking and when she comes in from the porch I can smell the smoke on her from 15 feet.  Don't know how I did it as long as I did, it really does stink.

Chantix worked for me.  I had some rage issues but it worked.

You'll get to the point that smoking just doesn't matter anymore.  You won't think about it, and you'll just stop doing it.
You definitely need to have someone keeping an eye on your moods, and general disposition.  Chantix made my wife depressed, and she was having some pretty dark thoughts.  She quit taking it, and she was feeling better the next day, and back to 100% in three days....but she still smokes.

Since I quit, the smell of it disgusts me.  Same thing with a guy I used to work with. Quit on Chantix, and can't stomach the smell of it anymore.

Don't take the eight days as a must stop day.  You'll just stop one day, and you may not even notice.

Also, check with your insurance company.  They may cover it.  Mine did.
