I recently purchased a Aimpoint Micro R1 fromm the sale at Midway.com. I ordered a LaRue QD mount and tried to mount the Micro to it tonight and hit a big snag. In the process of mounting the Micro, one of the little screws head sheared off and the threaded part is now stuck in the Micro. Can Aimpoint fix this or is there another company that can? I tried to grab the little bit that was sticking out and unscrew it with a pair of pliers, but it did not work. Any help would be great. Thanks |

I had a screw the I stripped off in a mount. To make matters worse, I had locktited it in. I thought I was done for. Went to sears and got a Craftmen's screw extractor kit. It worked like a charm- I couldn't believe it. Best 5 bucks I ever spent.
Well, except for that time in Manila. |

Hopefully he can get it out. I will post an update tomorrow. |

The screw extractor will work, but the screw first has to have a hole drilled into it for the extractor's tip to fit into. That is the only hard part. Hopefully he will lock the Aimpoint into a vise or fixture on the milling machine to drill it accurately. Some new extractors have a left-hand drill bit incorporated into the tip of the tool so you drill (counter-clockwise) and extract in one operation. The nice thing about those is that they won't drive the screw deeper, as a conventional (clockwise) drill will sometimes do if it happens to grab a little. |

I am going to run to the tool store this afternoon and see if they make small screw extractors. The only size bit that is smaller than the screw to drill the initial hole is a 1/16 . I hope they make a extractor that will fit. Edit: I tried calling Aimpoint, but the offices are close for SHOT. |

Screw extractors that small (if you can even find one) have a nasty tendency to snap right off in the hole you drilled. If you thought you had problems now...
