Something less than $60.

2 PC's (possibly a 3rd), printer and a laptop.

All are within 30' of one another (actually it's more like 20' if I discount the 3rd), wood and plaster walls.

Modest needs (no gaming), primarily for Internet and home networking.

The laptop has a USB wireless adapter, the PC's have no wireless connection (I do have a couple of spare USB adapters that I can use until I decide
if I need to install a PCI card or not).

I'm about 30 minutes away from Micro Center... http://www.microcenter.com/search/search_results.phtml?N=4294966869, but I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the models/choices.

I have used lots of consumer and enterprise grade wireless equipment. I have had more problems with Linksys than DLink on the consumer models. If you do not mind using an unofficial firmware upgrade like DD-WRT then Linksys seems to become more reliable.

Why? I've had linksys. My Netgear Rangemax has worked fine for 2 years.

Of the dozens of Linkys that I've worked with I've never had an issue with one, and yes I love flashing to the DD-WRT firmware, it does seem to be more stable.

I bought a cheap Belkin wireless and I think it ran 40 bucks at BestBuy. Its keeping a PS3, Pc,Ipad,Ipod touch, and laptop connected wirelessly pretty well. You have to restart it about once a week or it starts going slow as shit on you.

The Netgear N600 WNDR3700 got Maximum PC's 9/10 kick ass award.

I have a D-Link dual-band WiFi router and a Linksys BEFSR41 on the same net, but with the WiFi isolated from the wired network.

For sure! got mine 3 weeks ago to replace a non transmitting one. A good friend is a big tech head at Geek Squad and uses these. Was good enough for me running 4 computers a PS3 and a few 4G phones off of it wireless and two directly off the LAN. No burps. Fast and full signal out at the garage 120 feet away through the whole house, yard gaage with a lot of metal. GET THIS!!

Most of the new routers are faster than 99% of the owners' connections.
The Linksys WRT54GL is on sale at Newegg and has the best overall rating of any router. It's more than fast enough for most homes at 54mbps. Most internet connections, I'd guess, are between 10-20mbps.

Unless you're doing heavy traffic between computers on your network or streaming video from PC to tv via wi-fi, you don't need anything with the newest bells and whistles.

This router is like $50 right now...

can't go wrong with Netgear, Linksys or even D-link.   Been using a Linksys 45G for a long time, works nice.  You might consider getting an N for future speed, streaming net movies to a TV.  NewEgg and amazon always have some sort of deal, BestBuy occasionally.

Linksys WRT54GL...........is the 'open source' ready firmware version of the router.  Flash with Tomato firmware.  You can illegally boost your signal, adjust bandwidth priorities, and other features.

The other Linksys routers may or may not be firmware friendly even within the same designation.  L is for Linux version and always works.

Wireless N routers will disappoint.  Hardwire whenever you are streaming movies to a media center or gaming.  Wireless for general surfing or music streams.
