ARF needs it...
I like some of most types of music, I don't get why others don't too...Here's a sample of some music from different genres that I like. Hate away if you don't agree.

I'm totally surprised you think that is diversity...or even close.
No Miles Davis, no Robert Johnson, no Mozart or Beethoven, no big band, no John Coltrane, no Zep, no Beatles, no Dylan, no Musical numbers, no Gospel, no Bluegrass, no Folk, no Sinatra and no Mylie Cyrus. I do like that Cee Lo Green number, either version. |

But I thought anything but death metal or country meant you take it up the ass.

I like it all...just don't get why some people won't open themselves to new music. Because music is also a cultural thing. Part of the nature of any culture is to defend itself against other cultures. Personally, I’m with you. I don’t necessarily like all of the music there, but that’s a matter of taste, not culture. I’ll listen to Parliament Funkadelic, Charlie Daniels, and Toto, back to back. |

Good songs. |

I like just everything but rap and pop. Used to like rap in late 80's through the 90's but the modern stuff is pure shit. Funny thing is in many ways rap and country evolved into the same shit pool. Both used to be all about story telling now country is about suburban"redneck" bullshit and rap is about stereotypical wanna be thug bull shit. |

Not as diverse as some of the previous lists...but here's a few that I've been listening to lately: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7_CTdCMa_Q The Jezabels - She's So Hard http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgRsYkKb1eI The National - Mistaken for Strangers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaSC1jWxFV4 Bat for Lashes - A Forest http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32udqal_lyQ Crystal Castles - Not In Love, ft Robert Smith http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2t69IpPB0rA Caribou - Kaili http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcjPFAV1foU Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Y Control http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mq_S2vy0qwc&feature=related Interpol - Stella Was A Diver... |

Thanks for sharing. I've liked The National for a long time. Very talented bunch. And it's good to hear someone else with taste like mine, Utah Sniper. |

Diversify all you want. Don't mean I have to listen to what I don't want to.
As far as I'm concerned, you can shove Usher up his ass. I don't give a shit. ETA: Learned above it may be R. Kelly. Still don't give a shit. ETA2: If we're riding in the same vehicle, if you want to play this shit, you'll drive, I'll change and catch a bus. If I drive, no fuckin' way. |

I almost never listen to “music” on the radio in my car. CDs only.
98% of rock sucks. 99.7% of country sucks. All of rap, metal, etc. sucks. I’m a jazz and classical snob. It’s the result of having two degrees in music. I’m not willing to listen to a “musician” who only knows how to play three chords in two or three keys and wouldn’t know a 9th chord if it bit him. |

I love classical music and have no idea what a ninth chord is...nor do I give a flip...one does NOT have to have a fucking degree to appreciate good music.![]() Quoted:

Sounds like I touched a nerve or two.
A little history: Way back when – 50-60 years ago – radio stations were mostly locally owned. They played a variety of music; classical, country, jazz, bluegrass, big band etc. Then the record companies figured out they could sell more records by their artists if they could be sure those artists were heard a lot. So, they started buying the local radio stations. Once they owned the stations, they could force them to play what they wanted to sell. That worked. Record sales increased. The next thing the record companies figured out was, they could hire one guy who could sing and play the guitar with a small combo for less than the cost of a big band and a name singer. Music was focused on the lowest-common-denominator listener with minimal musical sophistication. Pretty soon, all you could find on the radio was “top 40” hits. The variety was gone. It’s a shame, but that’s where we are now. Most people don’t know how awful the music they hear is, because they almost never hear really good music. Some of you won’t like hearing that, but you can take comfort in the fact that it’s not your fault. |

What you say is true here, I am aware of 'regional' music being very big back in the 50's and 60's...I am also painfully aware of how awful most of todays music is...it amazes me and disgusts me at the same time. Where IS this generations Pink Floyd? Rolling Stones? the Who? Beatles etc...I like to believe we are on the cusp of a musical renaissance that will reaffirm my faith in our ability to create incredible music again....I think we may have seen the end of that era Quoted:
