Are there any combat games that allow you to shoot without going through campaigns...with good graphics?

My son wants me to learn to use the controller for his xbox so we can play together when he visits.

Is he worried that you'll beat the game without him playing with you?

No, I just don't have a lot of time to learn how to use the controller when he's with his mom. I  think I could learn my way around a bit faster if I could just shoot instead of dragging through a campaign. I have no interest in video games, I'm try to learn for my son.

The new Call of Duty Black Ops has a multiplayer option where you fight computer enemies just like online multiplayer.

Most of the first person shooter game (one of the call of duty games sounds like it's right for you) campaigns pretty much immerse you in what you need to know about shooting. Maybe pick up CoD: Black Ops (never played it myself). The campaign will get you used to the controls and everything. Play it on the easiest settings and you should get the hang of it.

Get this. You can either play online multiplayer, or the simulation as noted above.
