Spring Mills, Pa. — An Aaronsburg bowhunter got a painful lesson in maternal instinct when a black bear attacked him in his treestand in woods along Upper Georges Road near here Oct. 18. The hunter told officials he fell 15 feet from his treestand after tussling first with a cub and then its mother in the tree, just before dusk. Franklin, Pa. — Pennsylvania Game Commission officials recently announced that, based on their investigation, no charges will be filed against James Moore for killing a bear on Oct. 9. "This is an unfortunate incident that resulted in the loss of a valuable wildlife resource,” said wildlife conservation officer Lawrence Hergenroeder, who conducted the probe.
